This forest is a nice little gem for north east Florida. There are quite a few different camps to stay at, from 'established' sites that have toilets/showers to primitive sites with no amenities. I'd recommend visiting in the winter time when the bugs aren't so bad and the the forest is dryer. During summer some parts of the forest can get really swampy so 4x4 vehicles are recommended if you're planning on driving off the beaten path. The good news is that you can get to some of the more remote camps without doing a ton of offroading. If you're planning on trekking on foot during rainy season, be mindful where you step because of the cottonmouth snakes which are in abundance. There is said to be black bears out there, but I've never seen one. It's still wise to secure your food and keep it in your vehicle or hanging from a tree. I've camped out there many times and have never had a problem with any person or animal. The more active camps like Cobb Camp have a camp host as well as get daily visits from park rangers. It's just a great place to get away from the hustle and bustle of everyday life and get...
Read moreOsceola national park is an investing place. For the most part it is real stands of pine species that have been planted in rows. The undergrowth is more natural, but very thick anywhere off of roads trails and game trails. When satellite views seem to show clearings under the pine stands, they're more like brush six feet high consisting of saw palmetto Wiregrass gallberry fetterbushand red maple.
Osceola is home to the big gum swamp, which is super thick rich dense swamp full of gators, snakes, hogs deer and more. These animals are all throughout the park.
Great place for hunting. There's a big hiking trail over 21 miles long running through the western and Southern portion of the park. The roads are all dirt, water, and mud. Some forest service roads are not passable by all vehicles. Most of the main roads are but being dirt they're full of potholes and washouts.
Overall this is a really cool place to explore, offroad, hike, hunt, there are some designated camping areas, and a cool astronomy lookout area around a pond.
The entire Osceola wildfire management area is...
Read moremore beautiful than ever. live oaks, turtles, skinks, and swimming holes are some of my favorite things but the national forest act never said anything about taxing campers with high fees and limiting their stays. there is plenty of forest for everyone and campers help to fight the bug population.
be careful on weekends, 4 by 4 clubs are drugging and driving on main roads dangerous since they pop out from nowhere. leos need to focus on drunk drug driving at lakes and reopen free campgrounds. if you see someone littering excessively, beer cans and trash inside the campgrounds, send a short video with their tag to the rangers office.
it is not ok to drive high, even if you have a prescription. our forefathers knew marijuana was a dangerous drug, that is why they classified it as such. the edibles are more dangerous since they do not metabolize and overdosing is on the rise. otherwise, i love the people here. they help each other and have good values. take a deep, breath steady as she goes. respect, help, tolerate, and...
