I want to love this park because it's an overall great hike and nature walk, but I just can't love it right now. It's like going on an "adventure", getting disoriented and then lost --- HINT: a lot of people have complained about this. Their numbered map markers can be confusing to the newly initiated, and can be very hard to see because someone had the "bright" idea to make them a flat green color that blends in with the rest of the forest. The map markers themselves can also be very inaccurate, not where they should be due to being located in places that don't match up properly on their maps, and at least one or two of them seem to be missing.

To add to the confusion, some paths are not on their map markers, and a few others that are listed have either ponded with water, or have overgrown.

Pest control is seemingly nonexistent there, or just completely ineffective as the little mosquito-besties are horrible. Lake Elmo Public Works needs to do some seriously aggressive work on mosquito control as the little vampires are wildly out of control there.

I'm also perplexed by some of the people giving this park 5 star reviews after complaining about the same things I just did. Pro-tip: if you have any complaints then you should not be giving it a 5 star rating.

Please address and correct these issues properly for a...

One of my favorite parks! You can go hiking here for hours without ever going on the same trail. Beautiful scenery and it’s very peaceful and lightly trafficked, you really don’t run into other people most of the time because of how big it is. The mosquitoes can get really really bad here, it’s a deep woods with lots of water in it. Seriously though, bring bug spray or you will be miserable out there. There’s been some downed trees along a few paths for months so it could use a little more up keep. I think it’s gone downhill in the past few years because some places are beginning to become overgrown. Never was like that previously. It’s a true hidden gem otherwise, there’s nothing this big and quiet anywhere...

My Apple Maps took me to the other parking lot but I found the lot to the nature center. There are lots of mountain bike trails here. The nature center has a decent amount to offer as well. There's also a free little library here. I love the cute little painted walking sticks that you can borrow. Some of the trails don't seem to be used a lot so you can get a little lost. I think I was walking on a deer path there for a bit lol. Good mushroom spotting here. This park reminds me a little like the ones at...

Quiet, free park with a variety of a paths for biking, skiing, and hiking. Thanks to the new signs, it is much easier to navigate this maze of trails. The park is fairly peaceful and much smaller than nearby Lake Elmo Preserve, but that is some of the magic of this place. It is almost fully wooded with some lake overlooks that are very pretty. I have only hiked this in the winter, but hear that it is especially pretty in the fall. We return to this place each time that we are in the area.
