Whiting Ranch Wilderness Park — Attraction in Lake Forest

If you are allergic to bees, make sure you check the time of year and weather before heading deep into the canyon and up the hills. The hills are buzzing with life in the wild mustard fields and I've been stung more than once just riding by.

Wonderful place to train for serious mountain biking events, or go out for an aesthetic yet challenging ride.

Beware of the inconsiderate hikers and dog walkers all throughout the trails. More than once I've had to bring a stellar ride to a halt because some purse dog was in the middle of the trail around a blind corner.

Don't think you can go out and breeze these trails as a total amateur, they require prior strength and endurance training. Certain trails require prior expert runs and knowledge of how to deal with such runs.

Don't get cocky and think you can take anything you face out here without caution, that is how you end up down the mountain the fast way with broken spokes and...

This is a great place to enjoy the Southern California terrain, which is somewhat dry, sandy, rocky, and lots of cactus... expecting a rainforest would be a big mistake! :) --- This is a great place for hiking, it is hilly, and can be a little steep in some areas. Mountain Biking is good here, although it is not for the beginner Mountain Biker, as the climbs, particularly Mustard road, can be ferocious for a beginner. It's great for Intermediate, at least, and has about 4-6 mile loop depending on which trail you take. Visit their website, as you can get a lot of important safety and interesting information.... there is lots of wildlife here, and it's true that there are mountain lion, while the risks of attack are extremely small, there has been attack and death here a few years ago. It's probably not a good idea to bring little kids, or to go alone. Otherwise, it's a great place to enjoy nature, and get away from...
