Made the mistake of hiking on the left side near the river the first time. Signs are a little confusing. We had to turn back due to the risk for injury and deep mud. Stayed to the right next time and we're rewarded after a good workout with a stunning view of one of the better looking falls on North Shore! Stairs take you right down to the water and provide some beautiful views. Check out the cave on your way down too. After checking out of Cascade, we decided to tackle Caribou Falls again. This time we intended to hike alllll the way to the summit 😳😎 then go back down to the first tier, down over 100 steps to the base of the Falls and back up that same stairwell 😡 Was told it was a difficult hike but, well worth it! Thank goodness for the walking stick from Tracy and my recent weight loss! Still was a very slow, sweaty hike. Felt fantastic to reach our goal in one piece πŸ˜ƒπŸ‘Been years since we've done that. Was a great hike! Already looking forward...

This was a fun 1 mile round trip in and out hike to Caribou Falls. The falls were impressive and beautiful. The hike in was pretty tame and the trail wide and well defined. The steps down got a bit nerve-racking at the end (I am scared of heights) but I just waited at a bench which had a beautiful view while my husband and son when right down to the river.

It's a lot of steps down (~160 steps) and remember you have to come back up that. From the falls you can continue on the Superior hiking trail if you want to hike longer. We did for a little bit and then turned around and came back.

Pretty little hike if you want to...

If there is one place to visit, this is it. This is the best secret gem I have found on the north shore by far. This may be the best and most picturesque scenic waterfall in the state when the water is flowing. It rivals high falls at grand portage. Definitely top 5 for sure. No one stops here because it's not a state park, so it's not busy. It's a 1/2 mile hike, but well worth it. You can get to the base of the falls as well as access a bridge at the top. The wayside connects to the superior hiking trail. If your having a disappointing day like I was, stop here it will...
