It's a beautiful beach and wasn't overcrowded. It was pretty buggy though... So bring bug spray!!! Lots of flies, and they like to bite. The beach is close to a woodsy area, so this may be why. There are cicadas as well. They were in the sand and flying around, but it didn't really bother us too terribly much. I only saw 2 in the water where we were. We went on a Friday from about 11:00-5:00pm. The only thing that happened that my friends and I frowned upon was when one of my friends' kids needed help because he was having a hard time getting back to shore. Thankfully, a nice young boy saw him desperately struggling and carried him back to shore. My friend (his mother) ran as fast as she could but not sure if she would have made it in time had no one helped him. I watched the lifeguard on duty just sit and stare at my friend as they dragged her kid out of the water. She didn't budge or bat an eye. If anything, she should have walked over to see if he was okay, even if only for public perception. There's two lifeguards on duty, but this is the one closest to the restrooms/entrance she was a blond girl, and this happened at approximately 12:35pm. ridiculous
so make sure your dog has tags that are required for the dog to enter
supposedly you can aquire them from locall park office or whatever let me be ignorant with this issue since i am not a long time dog owner just temporarily.
i should be objective and agree with some rules for safety of others etc but this is a state i cant stand living in anymore. So many rules and requirements that makes this Illinois state really undesirable especially areas close to city of chicago.
Glad i am 50 already and wont live for much longer to see all those regulations change this world to a place that will look like place i came from in 1990 controlled by communist.

Minimal parking, which means less of a crowd, just be sure to plan ahead so you can find a spot on a side street and walk a little ways, like a block so not too far from the outlooks which are free and many benches to sit and watch the water by. Great idea to bring a book, there is a little library not too far walking distance if you forget a book just a street or so over towards the end of the park. 📚🚮🚸
💸💰The beach to get down to the water though is a pay to enjoy, pays for upkeep so worth the donation. $10 youth, $15 Adult $20 Family? There is a local rate and a discounted daily/monthly membership. Might be more information on their website?💡
Mojo & Moxie give it four paws up and two wagging tails for the trail....
