I visited Oakoasis County Preserve on a weekday in December when the weather was perfect for hiking, and the crowds were across the street at the other preserve. I hiked Oakoasis’s unnamed 2.5-mile loop trail. The trail is wide and easy to navigate. Signs and trail markers are in place and easy to follow. As the preserve’s name implies, the property is loaded with oak trees of all shapes and sizes which are fun to walk by and under and provide the squirrels with an endless acorn buffet. There are several benches strategically located along the trail including one overlooking the San Vincente Reservoir. The trail was clean but did have TP and other bits of trash left behind by the uncaring folks. The preserve has restrooms in the parking lot. The parking lot is huge, and it’s paved – probably meant to accommodate horse trailers. There is no fee to park or use...

This is a great family friendly hike. It is mostly easy with a small incline when you go to the overlook of the lake. During the wet season there is a small stream that runs through part of the hike. I assume during the dry season it is gone. There are parts of the hike that are tree covered. Much of the hike has high brush on either side which would provide some semblance of shade except when the sun is right overhead. I hiked this with my 3 yr old, 9yr old, and 10 yr old. It was easy for the oldest, and the 3 yr hiked over half of it with me picking her up for a few muddy spots and part of the incline toward...

Ilove this campground. This place is close to civilization that if you forget something, you can run home and get it. But, it's far enough away that you feel like you're out of town. This campground is usually only available for groups, but I heard they open it up to individuals once a month. When your group is here, you have your own private campground. No more listening to the idiots who decided everyone wants to hear their music or the screaming children while you're trying to enjoy the sounds of wilderness (I like the sounds of kids having fun and being loud, just not when I'm camping in...

This is a pretty neat loop, easy to moderate. After parking it takes some walk through long bushes to reach to the loop itself. Start of the trail has trees, and mostly shady. If you keep going following trail sign, you will eventually reach the half point sign. By that time there are not many high trees but it is still lush and beautiful given that the place was burned down in 2003. Not much water view on the main loop. It was not crowded on a Sunday afternoon. Plenty of parking. Gates close at 7:30. They allow ebikes on the trail.
