Had a great time even though it was a little chilly. Camped at the North Loop here on April 19 to 21 at campsite A8. We had 2 cars and 3 tents for the 5 of us and fit pretty good. A slight incline but not enough for it to bother us while sleeping. The office was not open for the season yet and neither were the modern bathrooms or water spigot so we had to find ice, water, and firewood elsewhere. A Few houses nearby sold wood for $5 so that worked out okay. The only issue was the Porta potty was almost overflowing. Luckily there was an extra permanet facility between the small cabins that still had a little room. Great proximity to the sandwich beach and a short drive to some hiking trails. We parked one car near headquarters and took the Lost Lake trail back to our campsite, then drove back to back with out second car to pick up the other one. Great little hike that actually had a lake in the middle with a cool lookout that had telescopes. It can be a little muddy the first mile so don't wear your fancy shoes if that concerns you. They do have wooden planks down to help get through it. We had a great couple of days and to be able to walk to the beach and check out the sunset was just awesome. Definitely will return. I'm curious how the bugs are here when it's warmer because it was too cold for any to bother us, other than a sluggish little bumblebee we saved...

I have camped at this campground for as long as I can remember. I've experienced this park as a child, a teenager, a young adult and an adult and I can honestly say that I've never stopped loving it. I have a certain bias due to the memories made here, but that does not mean that is all that makes this park special. The campsites are cool and shady, while the beach is sunny and hot. The park is a fair distance from the city and at night the stars are gorgeous. The camp hosts are great people and are easy to strike up a conversation with. There is a fantastic little ice cream shop on the north side of the park. The restrooms are clean and up-to-date. There are hiking and biking trails and a plethora of outdoorsy things to do in the area. Despite the kids romping around and playing, it's not hard to find a peaceful place in this park and kick back with a book. The sunset is gorgeous from the boardwalk. The dunes that surround the park are exciting to explore (especially as a teenager). All things said, the environment of the park created some of my fondest memories from childhood. It wasn't just time with family.. There's something about this park that has left me wanting more from every other park I've...
