Awesome trip to Cirque Of The Towers. Be prepared to drive a long way off the beaten path to get to the Big Sandy Trailhead. I did it in my Honda Accord and the road was fine. However, I got a bit lost trying to go through Kemmer Wyoming (from SLC) and ended up going back to I-80 and going through Rock Springs to get to Big Sandy Trailhead. I would recommend that route if you don’t lose more than 20 minutes. It gave me comfort to have a string of cars in front of me who were going the same place. Perhaps I would have been fine following the GPS through Kemmer if I hadn’t made one wrong turn.

. P.S. the pit toilet at Big Sandy Trailhead was clean but lacked toilet paper and the lock was broken. The parking lot was full but it didn’t feel crowded once we got...

Holy Smokes! This trailhead gets really busy during the summer! The parking lot is pretty much packed all the time. I guess for me, there are certain reasons I go to the Winds: probably the most important of which is to be at peace in the mountains. This explains my near dread of parking next to dozens of cars that have been used to transport numerous amounts of people into the supposed solitude of wilderness.... At any rate, most hikers leaving Big Sandy head to the Cirque, leaving miles of other trails less traveled. I guess you've now read some of my thoughts on wilderness use and preservation. Be kind...

This review is for the trailhead. We arrived on a Thursday and saw more vehicles than ever. We parked at the furthest parking area from the trailhead, which is near the turn off for the lodge. I clocked it at 0.4 miles from the trailhead. Plan to drop off/pick up and have a designated driver to park and collect the vehicle. The vault toilet I didn't use, but is nice to have there. The road to get here is also more rough than ever due to the wet winter. All that being said, this is the trailhead to many 5-star...

Love going camping here all the time every year. Even if it is a long hike it is always worth it the wind rivers are the most beautiful place I have ever been. The best time to go is around August because there aren't as many bugs and the weather is still nice. I love camping there for a week and they provide bear boxes but that depends on the year. Also the nights there are crazy the stars shine so bright you can see around it is so beautiful.

Is the entrance to the cirque of the towers loop. Is not steep at all, 5 miles, and you are at big Sandy Lake. Crossing couple streams, not very wide and mostly shallow. We enjoy the trail, and we camp on Sandy Lake for 4 days and day hike every day to a different lake from there and back. The most important thing is the cirque of the towers and hard trail, but it was an amazing experience. Loved.

Did the loop clockwise because challenging as ascending Texas Pass may be, I wouldn't have wanted to descend that steep grade! NOTE: Do not attempt this hike in July without a mosquito net and plenty of repellent (and even then, lots of patience for the swarms of thousands of relentless mosquitoes the size of hummingbirds).
