Was excited to come here. Pretty bad options for public land camping in the region so I came here. It was a Monday so I thought it would not be so busy. I was wrong. Not a lot of options for big rigs. Tons of ppl. Lots of traffic back and forth. I think there's even a shuttle service that runs through this park by the RVs back and forth all day. The family next to me was quiet untill the moment it became dusk then they were pretty obnoxious and had their children yelling and riding around on bicycles with training wheels and chasing their dog off the leash through everybody's RVs and even right in front of my door. The sign clearly states your pets must be on a leash. That didn't really bother me but it is a rule.
There were some tent campers in the park that were talking after dark but eventually it got to be quiet but then you get woken up early morning people running their generators to make their coffee or whatever. Lots of doors slamming early in the morning I really wish there would have been somewhere else.
But it is free so if you feel any of the things that I mentioned won't bother you then give it a go. The next day it seemed a lot less busy when I left though so I hope...
Read moreFound free camping spot here on Dyrt. Labour Day weekend (Mon night) and it's got lots of campers (RVs, tents and car campers). There's a large grassy area for tents. The river was a soothing soundtrack all night.
I'm sure they have this space partially to boost tourism and help bring people to the local businesses which worked a treat on us as we are already looking for where to get breakfast.
We arrived in the rain and opted to sleep in our car but were originally looking forward to being in our tent on the grass.
There's over 30 tents here tonight, 10+ RVs.
Pros: Easy to navigate to, lots of space, darker areas for parking are available (vs say a store parking lot) red dirt/gravel substrate on the parking lot, quiet to drive across, not dusty and not hot. Please never pave this, the temp would soar.
Cons: Floodlight on the other side of the river, it has a bright light that rotates. Didn't...
Read moreFree camping for 3 days? Easy decision! I've been researching camping in the area. Plenty of national forest and BLM to squat on but I just pulled into this city park on a whim and I am very pleased with my stay there. I didn't even realize that there was free camping right in town. I was visiting Lander to perform for a wedding ceremony and reception and just stopped in to use the restroom and check out the town and there was a band playing. I soon realized that there was tents scattered everywhere and campers and then saw a sign for camping. There's plenty of open dispersed tent camping and plenty of spaces for RVs and campers. There's bathrooms, picnic tables, trash cans, live bands and great people. Love the small town vibe. This couldn't have worked out more perfect. Thanks Lander for providing the public such a relaxed environment! You can't even be in our city...
