🤩🚂 1847-1848 Starrucca Viaduct 🚂🤩 - Lanesboro PA #starruccaviaduct #landmark #antebellum #railroad #viaduct

As a railfan (particularly Delaware & Hudson), I could not pass up the chance to see Starucca Viaduct on our trip through Pennsylvania. It has been recently restored and is a beautiful structure. Just wish I could have seen it when D&H challengers roared underneath it. I got a chance to meet the owner of the beautiful house underneath the Viaduct and he let me walk his property to get photos and provided some cool history. Only twenty miles away in Nicholson is the Tunkhannock Viaduct, another marvel in railroad engineering.

A side trip took us to the Starrucca Viaduct in Lanesboro, PA. It is listed on the National Register of Historic Places and is designated as a National Civil Engineering Landmark. It is still in use today as a passage for the Erie Railroad. Neat fact: When you stand directly under an arch, such as the one in the 4th photo, your voice is amplified and echoes!

I never know what group of nature or just enthused people I'll find here. Saying that I make it a point to roll thru Luciano Park when in the area which happens to be 5 miles from home.

Picture 1, 22's 50 &100 mile annual runners event base camp at Luciano Park. Pics 2&3 local stone quarry. You know---what the...
