This heavily wooded, 200-acre park gives the feel of a scenic mountain venue, yet it is located less than three miles southeast of the state Capitol building. The gorgeous Fidelity Lake is easily accessible by car from Mount Hope Avenue via Fidelity Road and by bicycle or foot from the Lansing River Trail. The lack of motorized boats provides a quiet, peaceful setting to enjoy a picnic, canoe ride, or nature walk.
The park 's close proximity to several other outstanding attractions makes it a centerpiece of a fun-filled day trip involving the River Trail, which borders the park on the north, Fenner Arboretum, which borders it on the south, and MSU, which is less than half a mile to the east.
Wildlife abounds in the park, with dense populations of deer, turkeys, geese, and fish commonly seen. The handicap-accessible kayak loading station simplifies use of canoes and kayaks. Crego Park's many assets resulted in its being honored with an Outstanding Park Design Award by the Michigan Recreation and Park Association in...
Read moreI really love this place and have been biking, walking, & kayaking here for about 8 years, before many people really knew about it. It has become more and more popular over the past few years so it's not as quiet and peaceful as it used to be and gets crowded very quickly in the summer. It's a great place to kayak for beginners, or if you just want to paddle or SUP around in an enclosed lake. You can find shaded pockets on the lake to park your kayak and relax away from the noise. Unfortunately, people are starting to crowd on the boat launch. Hubby and I had to ask people to move their stuff, food, small children, dogs, and babies away from the boat launch as we brought our huge kayaks out of the water, kinda dangerous. If you go earlier in the day it's less busy. I love the walking trails as well. We will keep going all year round as it's a beautiful quaint place just within the...
Read moreCrego is absolutely one of my favourite parks in Lansing. There are so many positive attributes - probably to many to mention - but I'll try. It's accessable by car (Mt. Hope between Aurelius and the 96 overpass) and via the River Trail. There is a beautiful, clean, small lake, surrounded by trees. The lake has a paved trail around half of it, with a picnic area and tables, and a wheelchair-accessable kayak/canoe launch. There is a nice large fishing dock with benches, and four stone-step access points to the lake that people use to fish from and to let dogs swim. There is a single-track footpath around the lake (best way to find it is to follow the gravel path North of the dock) that has more clearings to fish. It's a very pretty (but a bit treacherous) path that's about 0.6...
