We had an absolutely incredible experience at TerraVox Winery in Kansas City! This place is truly a hidden gem for wine lovers, especially if you're looking for something unique, educational, and downright delicious. From the moment we walked in, we were warmly welcomed. The gentleman who served us (I wish we caught his name!) was wonderful. He was friendly, knowledgeable, and clearly passionate about the wines he was pouring. He helped tailor our tasting to our preferences and made sure we were having a great time. He walked us through the fascinating history of TerraVox, a winery that focuses entirely on American heritage grape varietals, many of which we had never even heard of before. It’s not just a tasting; it’s an experience that feels like you're uncovering a lost chapter of wine history. I opted for the sweet flight, and each pour was better than the last. I was honestly surprised by the complexity and balance in the wines, not overly sugary like many sweet wines, but nuanced and beautifully crafted. My personal favorite had a floral aroma with a crisp finish that lingered just long enough. My husband went for the port flight, and he was absolutely blown away. He’s a bit of a port aficionado, and he kept raving about the richness and depth of flavor in every glass. One of them had this smooth, almost chocolatey finish that he hasn’t stopped talking about since. Not forgetting Sharlene whose knowledge, hospitality, and passion for the winery’s mission made our visit truly special.

Visited TerraVox a few weeks ago as a private tour with my wedding party the day before our wedding. Though there was a bit of a stressful start (the gates were locked when we arrived, though we booked and paid over a month prior), the person who worked with our group explained that it was a harvest day so they were all in the fields and lost track of times. It was definitely stressful to have happen on a wedding weekend, but the experience and wine was great enough that I didn't feel they deserved to have their rating suffer because of a human error. We got to try so many wines, and had a tour of the vineyard and saw every process of the winemaking! It was such a cool experience, and we ended up buying one of our favorite bottles afterward. It was so special to make a meal specifically to pair with the delicious wine. Overall, I would recommend this local vineyard to anyone who wants to learn about wine and meet great people! You could just tell that they love what they do, and I think it shows in the quality of the wine they produce.

My wife and I loved finding this hidden gem! Update: There were some hiccups to our first event but that makes sense for the fact, they had a lot of things to juggle at once. Elizabeth was so kind and helpful. Sweet as pie and very task oriented to help keep a smile on our faces. It was a perfect opportunity to be adventurous. Thank you guys again. Great staff and great energy. Ps. The history of the Vineyard and its grapes is worth a listen. Updated:Just got a callback from a very busy bee at TerraVox. Alyssa is always so attentive and kind! She is a rarity among humans. Our continued thanks to the TerraVox team. We are happily members. Can’t wait for the next event.

A friend in Minnesota read a feature article in the Smithsonian magazine (published December 2023) about the TerraVox Winery and called me to ask if I had been there. I am not only a high-end wine maker at home but also a wine fanatic. We went for a tasting. They charge $20 for a tasting and only give four samples - a bit on the pricey side compared to other wineries. They also only offer four whites and four reds for tasting and you choose four out of that selection. However, this winery is unique. All of their grapes are sourced in the Midwest. You will taste flavors you have never tasted before (ever had a wine with Paw Paw in it?). We really enjoyed the wine. Their Norton wine has won multiple national medals. This is not a "run of the mill" Missouri winery. If you love the experience of drinking wine, I highly recommend TerraVox be on your "must visit" list. The setting is spectacular. The drive is very beautiful and easy to get to. Michael did a good job of walking us through the tastings. Before you go, read the article from the Smithsonian and also look at the wines on their website. You will love the experience. This is a KC Metro hidden gem. We...
