I walked the loop at Rowden Park yesterday for the first time. It would have been a picturesque trail, but a landscaping crew did a real number alongside the trailer park side of the lake. It looks like somebody went in there with a bulldozer. All the cotton tails and natural plants and scrub that grow along the back of the lake were eradicated. It's just chucks of smelly mud, and big machinery tire marks chopping into the soil everywhere. Hasn't anyone heard of the term "erosion?" Those plants are there to protect the natural landscape and wild life, and to keep those trailers from toppling off the top of the hill. I'm no geologist, but it just seems really stupid to me. It also looks terrible. The city should hire an environmental agency to help them determine how to properly manage the park. It makes the area look so worn down, and a little bit sketchy. I wouldn't want to walk that portion of the trail alone as a woman. It didn't feel safe. Please learn how to trim the natural flora judiciously! Otherwise, I would have rated the park 5 stars. It's a nice little jewel in the...
Read moreA great place to walk. The trail take you through the woods, across a bridge, and on a wildlife walk between two ponds. There are also public tennis court and a baseball diamond where you can watch local kid's teams play if you're there at the right time. There are benches if you need a rest and indoor bathrooms. I wish there were a few more benches myself. Oh there's a playground and a picnic pavilion. I believe you need to reserve the pavilion for a small fee by calling Lapeer Parks and Recreation. There are lots of birds in the spring and summer and turtles. Sometimes you can see fish jump out of the water or a muskrat swimming across a pond. Even though it's in the City of Lapeer and right across the street From Lapeer McLaren Hospital it feels like you're out in the country. It renews my spirit. I'd much rather walk here than on the city streets or in a...
Read moreIt's a nice little park, there's a big play place to climb with multiple slides. A tire swing, a swing set. So something you first notice being here is that it's definitely aged. It's an old playground that's had lots of love, it definitely gets the job done for the kids but the swing set has a bolt loose in it that you only notice when an adult sits down, so I recommend parents stay off the swings to prevent it from wearing down more. There are tracks for walking, it's either one giant circle or there are other tracks that branch off. The track has a walk out section where there's turtles, fish you can see. There are multiple bridges over the water, so if you're scared of bridges maybe don't walk the track 😅 The pavilion is old, but it's still good to sit at and provides shade for hot days. The bathroom is kind of a walk, so make sure no one holds it...
