This is a beautiful serene setting . The first day and one-half of our visit was very pleasant. Then a group of about 9 busloads of high school students arrived filling the group camping area to capacity with tents. The group was supervised with counselors and well directed on the first evening. The next morning at about 8:15 I heard voices of a number of teens around our campsite. They were close in cutting weeds, raking, cutting up, etc. as teens on vacation are apt to do. They had an overseer who moved from group to group around the various campsites. My objection was the absence of respect for our privacy, as the group of about 12 were all about within 3 feet of our camper for at least 3/4 of an hour. My husband asked them to get off of our picnic table, as about six guys were lounging on top of it. They did without issue. However, the group remained very close in on our campsite working for at least another half hour until my husband found the overseer of the group, and asked her to remove them, for we were going to break camp that day, snd I could not even take our dogs outside the camper that morning because of the close proximity of the teens. I was quite upset concerning the issue and it destroyed the enjoyment of our entire visit. The compsites that were occupied, {about 4} seemed to be about the only ones the group were working on, and there were about 30 vacant sites in the park on which they could have worked with no interference to anyone. There was no campground host in the campground the 3 days that we were there, and no cell phone service was available. So we had no one to talk with about it other than the group overseer. While we loved the campground, and planned on coming back again, this experience has greatly dampened our inthusiasm. I hope for the sake of future campers that it will not...
Read moreGood spot for sky-viewing camping because it's in a relatively dark-sky zone and there are not a ton of trees up the hill. Too hot if you want to sleep in (in a tent) though! The river below is nice and those sites are reservable online and have more shade. The upper campsites up the hill on the loop road are first-come availability and some have covered tables. I prefer the upper sites because I come here to watch...

This past April the river was running very low which is a concern throughout New Mexico in this drought. I hope to get rain and snow this year to make for a better camping trip next year. However the fishing was great in spots, hiking is recommended as there is old Indian ruins and...
