If you’re looking for a solid hike with a real payoff, Cascade Falls delivers. The trail’s rugged enough to feel like you’re earning it, with stone steps, narrow paths, and water crossings that keep it interesting. When you finally get to the falls, it’s a legit view—tall cliffs, powerful water flow, and a cool, shaded canyon that looks like something out of a movie. Great place to clear your head, snap a few solid photos, or just chill out and listen to the water. No frills, just pure nature at its best. One of the best spots in Illinois—highly recommend checking it out.

10/10 would hike again! But it couldn’t be today, my legs are still haunted by all the stairs. The parking lot was basically full when I got there, but there’s so many spots along the trails to check out it didn’t feel crowded. The park seems well maintained, and the trails are clearly marked. Some trails have a lot of stairs or uneven ground to cross, so bring your balance. Or a friend to carry you 🫶🏻

I've been going here for 40 years. The amount of foot traffic has increased exponentialy. The public really needs to start picking up after themselves. The amount of trash left behind by inconsiderate visitors is ridiculous. I always bring plenty of trash bags to keep the parks clean as I hike. Otherwise, the natural beauty of this area of the park is unmatched. It's my backyard and I've taken advantage of it for more than 4 decades. Enjoy but be...
