We are so thankful for this space! It's a great place to let your dog be a dog! You can walk the trails or hang out in the common play area that has a shelter with picnic tables and benches. There is a huge fenced in area for smaller dogs or dogs who might be getting used to off leash. (Or are easily distracted and you don't want to chase them to Topeka) A porta potty is available there too. There is a water faucet for dog drinks and you can wash off your dog if you need to. Toddler pools are often there for dogs to cool off in too.
Dog pick up bags are available but occasionally the dispensers are empty so try to bring your own just in case. Better yet, bring your extra grocery bags for others to use. Covered trash cans are available. The only downside we can see is not everyone picks up after their dogs on the trails or grassy areas and even the common area. It seems to be the biggest complaint of dog owners. (Yup, you get the stinky eye if you don't pick up after your dog.) With the number of dogs in the area every day, it is important no matter where a dog decides to make a doo doo deposit that it's picked up. Do it for the health of other dogs and the water sources in the area. But you already knew that as a responsible dog human! A few parks in the country have closed because people weren't picking up after their pets and it became a health hazard. (Not to mention a stepping hazard!) Please do the doo thing so that doesn't happen to this amazing dog park of ours. To get there is easy. Just take 23rd/ Clinton Parkway west to the lake. The road is a T at the very end. Go left( south) take the first left before going over the dam. Then the first left after the curve. Drive slow and watch out for paws! You'll love watching your dog's joy of running off leash, sniffing and meeting all kinds of other dogs. Great place to meet other dog lovers too of course! Love our time at the Mutt Run Off Leash Dog Park. Thanks City...
Read moreGOOD: The park is generally well kept, and its a big open space for off leash dogs to run for great lengths among grass and trees, connecting to the near by river on-leash gootpaths. There is a smaller fenced area for dogs to play off leash as well. My dog loved coming here to socialize and run around. BAD: We've always had issues with some dogs brought to the park that are not dog friendly and some that are not people friendly. Some dogs run around with little to no supervision out of their owner'svisual range. Be careful parking here as often dogs will run around the parking area unnoticed. A dog got hit by a car here not long ago. While I've had dogs come at mine aggressively before, we finally had a dog attack mine yesterday. The front area near the water dish is where many dogs congregate and can become dicey. Which is a shame, but it's been a known issue of the area I can't ignore and a part of the reality of going to an unsupervised dog park. CONCLUSION: Its beautiful and big, but enjoy at your own risk knowing dogs have been known to...
Read moreLove the park, love most of the people there. Great place for dog parents to go and let their pups socialize and play. If you go, please watch out for and avoid the standard poodle name Toshi Ro and his owner. The dog pees on both people and dogs, while the owner sits and just watches, saying, "Oh, it happens." She has no remorse or anything, and doesn't even try to correct the dog. He's peed on our dogs multiple times and we've seen him walk up and just pee on other owners as well. Everyone else we've met are the nicest people, but this owner will argue with you and not even apologize.
Other wise, this park is our absolute favorite! Our pups love playing in the water (especially after they've gotten peed on) and there are tons of trails to explore. I'd recommend it to everyone, just be on the look out for...
