We recently stayed in the pet cabin, and let me say, the cabin was beautiful. Nice layout, decent wifi, beautiful park in general. However, literally every night we stayed there (4 in total) we encountered bugs. The first night a bug landed in my fiance's bed, and while it was an unpleasant experience, we wrote that off, as we are in a cabin, and things happen. However, the next 3 nights we found LARGE bugs in the cabin, in the sink, in one of the bedrooms, and on the porch. These were not just regular bugs, these were LARGE cockroaches. And by large I mean, at least 2 inch long COCKROACHES! These menaces only came out night, so you couldn't find them and kill them before going to sleep. When we alerted the camp office to our bug situation, we were dismissed and told they were just "water bugs" These are not water bugs, these were literal HUGE cockroaches. While some people mislabel a cockroach as a water bug, these had the large hairy legs of cockroaches. Definitely not water bugs. The staff at the museum, and the younger woman we spoke to at the office early in the visit were all kind, wonderful, informative employees, however the older woman we spoke to in the office about the bug situation, was dismissive and not interested in helping. Before spending the money on one of these cabins, please think about the possiblity that you will be encountering HUGE insects that can cause disease and they come out only at night. If you have allergies or phobias, you need to be aware of this situation. I'd like to note that all 4 of us that stayed, along with our small dog were sneezing and uncomfortable. And we live in a rural area, we are not unused to allergens or large bugs, however we do not encounter large cockroaches.
I'd give it a much better rating if not for the literal cockroaches and the lack of understanding for the situation from the woman at the park office. I'd definitely go back for a day trip, but will never again stay in...
Read moreThis was a really nice state park I enjoyed the 2 days that I was here I made my reservation online and didn't have any issues finding the campsite. I chose a campsite that was located directly next to the showers and the bathrooms once I took my shower the shower was made very inconveniently for a short person and I myself in 5 2". The water was kind of warm but not as warm as I would like it and I took a shower very quickly because tbecause the angle of the shower could not be changed. The bathrooms are located on the other side of where the showers are. The nature at this park was really nice the campsites were built very well and the leveled also. The campsites for tent camping are mixed in along with the site for trailer are trailers and campers. The pool for this park is going to be closing because the usage was down but the grounds are very nice and beautiful the cabins at this park don't really don't resemble cabins at all they resemble small apartments but they are nice as well they are located around the lake. We did go fishing in the lake but didn't catch anything. We were here in March and search and I don't believe that the restaurant was open we didn't get out to see but there were no cars there. This park is located very close proximity to anything that you would need or that you have forgotten my phone also works here in the park which was a plus. Overall I will say that I do like this state park the only complaint that I had was the shower. PS There is an archery 🏹...
Read moreThe park provides something for everyone and has a variety of activities. The hiking trails are well maintained and range from easy to moderate. The paved bike trail has workout equipment scattered along to the trail and are in good shape. The park is designed as an oval and provides many opportunities to access the Shoal Creek it boarders. There are tennis courts, basketball courts, several play grounds, and plenty of wide open spaces to enjoy nature. There is two campgrounds, one with access to the creek. The restroom and shower facilities are nice in the campgrounds and are air conditioned! There are several shelters scattered throughout the park and some have restrooms attached. The museum is small but has various birds on display outside in cages. The restaurant offers a variety of dishes to suit any taste. The Olympic sized pool is a great space to cool off and hosts swim meets in the evening. The lake and boat dock provide an opportunity to fish, kayak, or rent a flat bottom boat or paddle boat. There are several waterfalls in the park. The large falls are across from the museum and are accessible from a short trail or along the edge of the lake. The smaller falls are beside the covered bridge and are a shallow place to cool off. I always see a variety of wildlife: deer, turkeys, squirrels, birds, and turtles. Park rangers are commonly seen patrolling the park and are a good source of...
