The scenery was beautiful, and looking at the old mining machinery was great. I liked the tour for the most part. I did not like how there was only supposed to be five people in the group and the tour guide Brenda let a group of 12 join us. There was zero room to sit or stand in the little one room cabin at the end of the tour. I also did not like how she proceeded to bash Baby Does first husband for being a cheater but she praised Baby Doe for being such an amazing woman. Did you forget that she was also a cheater? And broke up a marriage? Brenda also said everything you’ve ever heard on tv about Baby Doe and The Matchless Mine is a complete lie. It is a self guided tour with lots of informational signs and you can walk around the area and go inside the cabin and area where the bucket would be lowered or lifted to go into the mine. It gives you an idea how it was back in the day and leaves you walking away with an understanding of what life was like. There used to be a tour guide but now it’s self guided. I also learnt how to pan for gold before the tour started. Well worth my time and spent about an hour there. I could peek inside the shaft number 6 and look at the head frame and hoist house.
