My symptoms started yesterday after my workout, my lungs felt âfaintâ as if someone punched me in the stomach and took my breath away, This morning I was ofcourse sore in various places as one is a day or two after a work out, but my right side hurt a little more than everything else. I had breakfast & I went to work and did my normal Monday duties, I had 2 bottles of water as well, I sat down to relax a bit and started watching a show, after about 10 minutes I suddenly felt as if I was going to pass out & that something was off, I work alone so I rushed outside to stop a random lady walking to her car and asked her to watch me until I could get ahold of someone, I did not feel safe to drive so my mother grabbed me from work and after being told I couldnât get help at CareNow we rushed to Lees Summit Medical Center.
I checked in at the front, I explained my symptoms were me randomly feeling like I was going to pass out, feeling âoffâ feeling âfaintâ and having winded lungs, I was ASKED if there was any pain and I did mention that I had side pain & that I was obviously sore from my workout, but it still was a worry to me as my lungs have been feeling faint and tired since yesterday. I had my blood pressure and oxygen checked by the male nurse at the front desk who checked me in, I was then grabbed by a lady who took me into a room where I was separated by 2 other people by curtains.
The doctor came in and asked about my symptoms, I explained to him I worked out yesterday, Was feeling faint & tired lungs since yesterday, randomly almost felt like I was gonna pass out which is why I was there but was also sore from my workout and that my right side did hurt a bit so I wanted to check on that as well.
He NEVER listened to my lungs, NEVER checked my eyes, ears, throat, no blood test, I was not asked about family health history, All I was asked is if i smoke cigarettes, if I may be pregnant, If I ate today and if I drank any water.
All he did to examine me was feel with his bare hands on my right side and asked if it hurt, He then said twice he âthinks im fine but will give me a chest x-ray for my peace of mindâ ??? My peace of mind as if my health isnât serious to himâŚ
While I was waiting to hear back on my X-ray, Another lady came in to finish registering me for my appointment, She asked for important information that the 2 other people separated from me by curtain could clearly hear and I could hear their information being disputed as well. Registering me consisted of her asking me about my insurance, updating my home address, phone number, email, emergency contacts numbers, & my mothers workplace that AGAIN was being heard loud and clearly by the 2 patients next to me.
Another lady came in for a âbreathing treatmentâ for the woman patient next to me, The woman next to me explained that she was at the ER for finger pain not for respiratory issuesâŚThese are all red flags experienced during my time there.
Once the doctor came back in the room to discuss my X-ray results, he said everything looked fine and gave me some medication suggestions for my side pain only, He did NOT address my lungs feeling faint or tired, NOR did he say ANYTHING about the main reason I was there which was me feeling like I was going to pass out suddenly. I was speechless. A lady came in to give me my discharge papers shortly after and I told her that my lungs were not listened to and that I wanted to get my sinus cavities checked as they should have been checked in the first place, She responded by saying the x-ray gave them all the information they needed to know and that if anything was wrong with my lungs they would see it in the x-ray, She also stated that I came in there for rib cage pain only which I DID NOT.
I feel like they heard âpainâ and ran with it, My health was not taken seriously at Lees Summit Medical Center, I felt dismissed, misunderstood, mistreated and was not given the full treatment or precautionary measures one should receive at an EMERGENCY ROOM!!! but I'm sure they will make sure to send me my...
Read moreAbsolutely terrible experience, negligent physicians and failure to treat the patient.
My younger brother was admitted after visiting the ER on 3Sep (Sunday). Granted Monday was a holiday, they did nothing for him when presenting with jaundice, an inflamed liver, retracted gallbladder, and elevated enzymes (bilirubin at a 9mg/DL, 9x higher than normal). It took over 24hrs for an MRI to be read after being completed on Monday, and this was only done by the exceptional RN providing care. Even then the Infectious Disease team, Surgical Consult, and Hospitalist couldn't come to an agreement on the diagnosis. Up to the point of discharge the Infectious Disease group COULD NOT KEEP THE TIMELINE CORRECT and still didn't know the timing of symptom onset despite his and our family having explained this numerous times.
I walked through with the hospitalist regarding imaging and labs to understand a potential diagnosis; despite bloodwork still having not been completed 4 days in, what we had received and what imaging had been completed indicated it was NOT an infection but a gallbladder issue; imaging indicated an obstructed bile duct. The doctor indicated that there was no sign in any lab that indicated elevated levels of WBC or immunological factors indicative of a viral or bacterial infection, indicated there was no sign of any prion or other pathogenic infection, and every symptom/observation logged indicated gallbladder. The entire medical staff still said he should stay for observation despite clearly being in pain, not being able to keep any food down (not sure why high acidity foods were being ordered for a gallbladder/liver issue) and a diagnosis clearly being available - this is IF the medical team would have clearly listened to the timeline outlining the onset of symptoms vs assuming an event taking place after the first symptom played a role when it clearly didn't. We sought a 2nd opinion from an internist in the area who said it was related to gallbladder, and a 3rd opinion from an MD/PhD internist with whom I work who concurred with the gallbladder assessment.
Upon discharge the hospital would not release any of his lab data, enzyme lvl, WBC counts, imaging media or list of administered medications. 3 groups could still not agree on any concrete diagnosis. What the hospital was prompt with involved bringing him a bill while he was in his room, in immense pain before he had received a single answer or output from any test. The hospital, immediately following the visit from the infectious disease doctor who said he didn't think it was viral but gallbladder, promptly had a nurse unhook the IV and a second hand him discharge papers. Discharge took place while presenting with BR 3X normal range, elevated liver enzymes, fever, and jaundice, being treated simply with broad spectrum antibiotics - grossly negligent and unwilling to admit their team has made a mistake. Will this hospital be footing the bill when he's admitted again upon his return home?
I recognize that with this falling on a holiday weekend it was difficult to get things ordered and processed, but this is not an excuse; if you cannot staff a hospital then do not open a hospital. Letting a patient sit and suffer for 4 days in a bed while not listening to him, not acknowledging the clear evidence present, and not even listening to his advocates (I work in medicine focusing on immunology/infectious disease, and hepatology) is antithetical to care in every respect of the word. To not even offer this patient a proactive, minimally impactful, low risk resolution such as sonication/lithotripsy or oral dissolution medication while in the hospital or upon discharge is shameful. Instead, 2 broad spectrum antibiotics were prescribed and he was sent out the door. The hospital refused to provide any actual care for the condition, and opted to let him return home to suffer vs doing so at a high bill rate where he was made to feel like an...
Read moreWhen It comes to planned procedures no doubt Lee Summit Medical Center goes above and beyond. However I would stay clear of the Emergency đ Room!! Most of the team on that night (7/29/23) was pretty horrible. First was Mr Matt in the triage (white male, glass, bandana, tattoos) Didnât even try to pronounce my name lucky the place was empty enough for him to point at me and say to my husband âyou can bring her inâ. Mr. Matt had an attitude never completely listening to my answers as he rudely looks me up and down and with out any prior warning touched me inappropriately and with such unnecessary force, stuck and forced his finger in my upper mid section of my chest, very close to where I was having my pain to ask me where did I get (EKG sticker left on my chest from 911 that came to my home earlier) that from. In that same instant I crouched further down in the chair and screamed âOW! What are you doing?â My husband jumped up a little and Mr Matt jumped back and pulled his hand back and Amber (nurse) swooped her head around and just looked shocked. I said clearly it was when I called 911. He then asked what my moms address was to âverify which 911 I called?? After given a room and assigned nurse Amber. Dr Miller came in and tried to force me sit up after I told her I just had surgery a week ago for gallbladder, two hernias and a Linx device implanted. However DR Miller felt it was so preposterous that I could not sit up completely and with out pain???? I yelped as she try to force me in complete sit up position which for me was Not possible yet with out pain. The X-ray tech was just as insensitive suggesting I NEED to push more further than physically capable!!?? Like really people?? The ONLY person that was helpful was the one person I canât remember her name and I am actually upset about it, was the technician that did my CAT scan. Please someone give her a raise and or some recognition! A true Angel! I did tell my nurse Amber about how I felt about what Mr Matt did in Triage but she simply apologized to me on his behalf and how he should know better as for women present symptoms of chest and arm pain with heart attack. After my last labs were done around 9pm, I was told no more than another 30min for results. However I fell asleep and woke back up around midnight to 1am ish. Woke my husband and asked if anyone came in he said NO. So by this point aim feeling better, just enough to go home. I pressed the call button yet it took a good 15-20min before anyone answered so that I can asked to be discharged already. Dr Miller came in quickly to say she was making sure there was no infection and then talks about some issue with another patient, seemed like she was about to cry then said âIâll get your paperwork together.â That was it!! I did tell my primary what happened in my follow up on Wednesday and plan on letting Dr. Lehr know as well on my follow up on Monday afternoon!
Once again I will sayâŚ. As long as you have a planned visit I love being at Lee Summit Medical Center just think twice before going to their ER. This is the 1st awful experience in my two years in KC versus having put up with similar behavior Massachusetts all my life. I will say KC health still better treatment than Mass....
