Took a drive out here based on favorable reviews. Pretty isolated from nearby towns, but near a busy road and active railroad track. $4 per person plus tax for day use. Armband and parking pass provided. The host at checkin provided a map and basic layout. I should have asked more questions regarding the available hikes cause wow!

We strolled down the boardwalk (only path the host mentioned) and it was serene and very pretty. Moss, ferns, cypress and solitude. Trex elevated path for maybe 1/4 to 1/2 mile round trip. Wheelchair friendly for that part and lovely.

Near the end was an "off ramp" that led to two other trails. We werent prepared (sandals and no water), so really disappointed we didnt see it all. That said, a great abundance of birds, gators and even a couple squirrels enjoying the sunny day.

Will absolutely go back and be properly equipped to soak in this gem of a park! Great day in nature.

Note, we spoke to some campers there and were told the weekends are super busy, plan...

Great place for an early morning hike. Can get a little hot in the middle of the day (not a lot of shadeuntil you reach the fort center historic site.) Lots of great birding here as well, crested cara cara, bald eagles, kestrels, swallow tailed kites, egrets, herons, and many little warbler friends. There are also snakes here too, black racers, Gardner snakes, greens, moccasins, pygmies, yellow rats and more! Only negative can be all the cows, they are cute but sometimes don't like to moove (ha). Good place to bring pets, keep on leash (the cows) but usually not too many folks here and plenty of acres to explore. Awesome historic site at fort center and you can see all the old citrus trees from the Spanish. Oh, and gators, LOTS of gators. I've either convinced you this place is awesome or made you swear it off, but I love it. Fun place...

Campsite was very nice and the scenery was beautiful. However, the overall experience was very disappointing. I am a true camper and love to rough it, and enjoy the privacy and serenity that (should) go with it. This place is just one big raucus party. Too many people just don't give a thought to extending common courtesy to other campers. One night, kids were yelling and screaming until at least 11:30 or so. The next night, somebody's dog kept barking and howling all night long. The following morning, I wake up to find people in my campsite who apparently invited themselves in because they decided to go fishing. Also, all too much of the time, somebody had their boombox going, late into the night nonetheless. If you want to party by the creekside, this is a great place. If you want a quiet and peaceful experience, avoid it...

Fantastic place for camping, canoeing, kayaking, fishing, bird and nature watching. Usually not very crowded very nice boat ramp and you can even rent canoes and kayaks. This is one of my most favorite places for kayak nature watching. There aren't really any swimming accommodations unless you are Keen about swimming with the Gators. There is a little convenience store at the check-in place where you can buy basic necessities and refreshments. There are showers and restrooms.
