Since you can't swim in the reservoir, and there's no pool at this park, you might choose to stay at the lower campground. The lower camp has 41 sites, some right along the Kettle Creek just above the CCC dam which creates some good pooling for fishing right behind your campsite. It's also a good spot for relaxing (see picture). The above area has 27 campsites. Boating up to electric motorboats are allowed on the reservoir. The upper area has a boat launch and boat mooring area. There are picnic tables near the water and a play area. Further up SAR 4001 is a 22 mile equestrian trailhead with overnight camping with permit. Winter activities include ice fishing, snowmobiling, cross country skiing, sledding and tobogganing. Hunting is permitted in season. For events at this park visit: events dcnr pa For more information: pa parks and...
Read moreWe’re hikers and went on Summerton trail which was very dangerous in spots. We couldn’t put one foot beside the other for much of the way up with a drop off to our right. We cut across the top and went back down Owl Hollow Trail which we assumed had to be safer. At the top the trail was very narrow and overgrown but nothing scary. Once we got almost halfway down, the trail was virtually impassable. There was a off to our left and again we couldn’t put one foot beside the other. Plus it was mostly dangerously loose rocks with crevices to avoid. We could barely find trail markers as we made our way climbing over or under fallen trees. At times there were multiple trees down in one place that we had to climb over some while squeezing under the top tree. The trails have obviously not been checked or groomed...

We explained that we were hammock camping, and the staff actually took the time to go out and personally check the site before assigning it to us. That kind of effort and care really stood out and made us feel welcomed and looked after.
The park itself is quiet, peaceful, and full of natural beauty. It’s a perfect place for kayaking, fishing, or just relaxing by the water. Even though we arrived without much notice, it turned into one of our favorite stops of the trip. Highly recommend if you’re looking for serenity and a team that genuinely wants you to have a...
