Sagawau Canyon Nature Preserve — Attraction in Lemont Township

We will have to return another day, it seemed closed, but parking lot was open. My review is on the experience we had in the winter.

We went to the grounds to explore and have a beautiful hike in the snow. I have heard wonderful things about the grounds; that it’s a hidden gem. I hope to one day return when it’s spring or summer and truly experience what the preserve has to offer.

I do, however, wish the parking lot was closed if the trails and center are both closed. This would offer people a better understanding to not enter. We parked, walked around hoping to walk the trails and felt as if we were violating many rules due to the signage that is placed everywhere. Many signs to read with instructions. We did not walk the trails or go inside any structures, for they were closed. We went to other preserves on the same day to get nature photography shots and felt more welcomed to enjoy the wintry aspect of nature. Although I was there on business and not pleasure, I found myself lost in the multitude of bird and plant species. They boast adventures in things such as bird watching, nature walks, and even skiing. They also host functions for children and encourage community volunteering for such events. I slept on this place in Lemont for too long. Sagawau canyon preserve is so amazing. And all this end of summer beauty on my morning walk.Prairies, flowers, so many birds including hummingbirds.
