Stockbridge Bowl is a beautiful place to visit year -round. In the summer, it's a great place to swim, paddle, canoe or boat. In the fall and spring, it's of course less traveled and more serene. Perhaps my favorite time to visit is January and February, where you can park at Gould Meadows, walk through the forest to the Gould Beach, then traverse clear across the frozen bowl to the island on the south side. It's quite a special place. And since the Bowl isn't treated with herbicides, it's a far more biodiverse lake than most others in the area. Ask any of the dozen or more ice fisherman you'll find on the Bowl in those frozen days of January. Folks come from all over because it's untreated and the fishing is better, because you and your children can swim in the water and not worry about swimming in chemicals. Let's hope it...
