We found 4R Ranch on Hipcamp app while looking for camping grounds with Wi Fi access. (We found out later 4R is a spectacular Vineyard/Winery and Event Center as well as having campgrounds-BONUS!) We LOVE to unwind in nature but I work on commission 7 days a week so it behooves me to stay connected to my clients and be available when they contact me and conduct business remotely as usual. However, I DID relax a lot and I worked from my phone in a hammock, tent, picnic table and yoga mat. We definitely got to chil and enjoy and I didn't feel stressed about being unavailable. This private family Ranch/Vineyard/Wine tasting/Events/camping property is beautiful and it was easy to make reservations with Walt.
Campsites 8 and 9 are less private but have the best continuous Wi Fi access near the showers and campsite entrance. All the campgrounds have plenty of space and a great view and a fire pit. Campsites 1-7 are much more private (5 is most private) toward the back and have their own porta potty as well but you could easily walk or drive up the road to the bathrooms/showers which is no big deal. You can always check your WiFi messages or email when you go toward the showers or unplug completely. Water was nice and warm in the pull chain showers and there were sinks and plugs available for charging our devices. I enjoyed those extra ammeneties as well as the quiet campground. I did not hook my laptop up to the free WiFi but our phones stayed connected with no problem. We did not have phone service but we used the campground free Wi Fi for using Wi Fi calling, What's app, email, YouTube for music and yoga classes etc. While enjoying nature in these safe, beautiful view, clean campgrounds. We later visited the lovely 4R wine tasting room and had a gorgeous sunset evening with a delicious red wine flight and yummy cheeseboard. It was a bonus surprise treat to our relaxing couples weekend. The view was spectacular and the property is beautiful! The family business owners of 4R Ranch/Vineyard/Tasting Room/Event Venue/Guesthouse/camp ground were all beyond welcoming and helpful. They made us feel at home and have a great thing going at their venue. We really enjoyed learning about the family business and how the vineyard started and how everyone in the family contributes their unique gifts to this gem of a place. We will definitely be back for another weekend couple's get away in...
Read moreThis is one of three wineries in the area. It’s on a gravel road. The address will guide you through the entrance and then you drive for a ways up to the top of the hill. The view is particularly amazing. There is an outdoor area that overlooks the scenery below. It’s really quite nice
We went on a Sunday and it wasn’t very busy. There were three employees behind the bar but it took a while for one of them to help us out. A flight of five wines in a tasting is $14. I would consider this rather high for the area. They ask you which wines you would like to try and then they ask you to have a seat. They then bring out all of your wines in a number of small bottles that you can pour at your leisure. This is neat however it gives you no opportunity to interact with the staff to learn more about the wine. I am sure it works great for a busy day but when you want to learn about the wine, it’s much better when they pour you one glass at a time.
We sat outside with a great view. However, the honey bees here are annoying and are quite attracted to the wine. We couldn’t get them to go away. We moved tables a few times and finally had to go inside. I get we are in the outdoors in the country but this was a bit annoying. I’m not sure if there is much they can do about it but it’s something to be aware of. Especially if you have an allergy.
We tried five of the dry wines and unfortunately we didn’t like any of them. Maybe they are better at sweet wines than dry wines but that’s not really our thing. While the view was nice, I honestly wouldn’t go back...
Read moreWe have camped here twice and have enjoyed both times we have stayed here.
The campground: The campgrounds are spaced apart and are large. You get a lot of space to do what you want with, there is also a grate to build a campfire and free firewood provided. Near the entrance to the campsite they have showers and bathrooms along with WiFi, however the wifi only works in the immediate area. Cell reception is slim to none on a majority of the campsites.
The property: the property here is large and gorgeous, with vineyards, rolling hills, farm animals, wind turbines, and great scenery, it is a very diverse landscape here that have many picturesque areas. Getting around the property consists of rough, gravel roads that have varying elevation and can be harsh on a regular sedan, I would recommend driving an SUV or Truck if possible here. They have a 9 mile mountain biking trail here that you can also hike on that circles the property. Very fun trail.
The winery: The winery is at the top of the hill and features beautiful views of the hill country and is great to watch the sunset. They have live music sometimes and a good selection of wine. The wine is pretty good and is reasonably priced.
All in all, we mainly come here for the camping and will...
