We stayed with our family at "The Big House" January 2024 as part of their Christmas gift to all of us. I have to admit that had I been the one spending the money, I would have been pretty disappointed. The use of space in the house is odd, and while the house is big, it has a lot of small rooms and additions which makes it feel very small. They have an old broken down grand piano taking up an entire room where a dining table should be, and a dining table in the kitchen making moving around in there while others are sitting impossible. Many items were very worn down, broken, unclean. The pool table sticks only had 2 left with a tip on them, no chaulk to add to them, and one of the two came apart while playing. There is a huge area upstairs where they could put a lot of seating where a large family could gather and hang out, but the seating is just not there, and there is a room next to that with a small table with no chairs. The whole house really could be laid out better with a better use of space. There is a metal spiral staircase and the top railing was missing its bolts which is so unsafe, it moved easily back and forth. There was supposed to be airbeds to use, however they both had holes in them. There were no additional blankets to use either. It was winter when we visited, and luckily a few of us had brought some throws from home or kids would have slept without a blanket. The oven was not turning on or off due to the knob being broken. The decor and home is very worn and outdated, lampshades were broken, I could go on for days about the worn down, faded look of this place. Nothing in this house screamed luxury and I did not get that excited "getaway feel" you get when staying in a nice room/house/condo. When looking for extra bedding some extra pillows were found, and thankfully we found pillowcases because the pillows were stained. Gross. My son found a clothing tag under the nightstand that clearly had not been swept under in a long time because it was for a pair of thong sandals. The bed was 'ok' not a luxurious sleep by any means. The game room is pretty awesome, however some of the games wouldn't work because it's located in a garage and they had two heaters in there that barely worked. I really feel if they are going to rent in the winter they should update the heating units. The description on AirBNB says, "We will provide everything you need for a quick getaway." This is HARDLY true. The can opener doesn't work. The kitchen barely has enough dishes in it, we had to run to the store to purchase paper plates, bowls, napkins, plasticware, and hand soap. I couldn't locate a cookie sheet or many other items you'd expect. It didn't have salt, etc. I would have loved to give this place a better rating but it really needs some updates, restocking and TLC. I have to wonder if the owners have even stepped foot there in a while. The best thing about this place is...
Read moreGreat Lakes Resort provided a great place for our family reunion of over 70 attendees for a week. We came in from all over the country and found that this place enabled us to have a wonderful week creating new memories and reminiscing about old ones.
The price of the whole resort met our parameters, our accommodations were clean, suite rooms spacious provided ample space and the newly paved road and parking areas provided easy access from one place to another. We also had family staying in the beach house, studio suite and Big House and they found they were comfortable and meet their needs.
We loved the beach front. Our lil ones could play in the shallow water with their life jackets without worry. Our older gang had fun using the paddle boards and kayaks which can be rented for five dollars for the day. We found that the river rock bottom of the lake wasn’t difficult to walk on especially with water shoes. It was great that our “Elders” could view the lil ones and others on the beachfront from the easy access patio area that sits above the beach front.
Many of our younger generation made use of the game room which had arcade games , a pool table and board games.
We made fast use of the gas grills outside the units and gathered often in the afternoon in small groups to chat and enjoy a glass of wine in the lil gazebos placed near the suites. For our full family gatherings we used the picnic tables near the beach front which had plenty of seating available.
Nighttime provided an opportunity for us to have a fire in the large fire pit area, roasting marshmallows and making smores. Once the lil ones were in bed we adults had fun sitting around the fire and reconnecting with one another.
All in all we had a wonderful week together and appreciate all Moe did to insure that outcome. He is doing a great job of renovating this resort and met any need we had promptly. If you are looking for a place to gather as a group to just get away alone to relax and be refreshed check out Great Lakes Resort! We weren’t disappointed and don’t think you...
Read moreI visited Great Lakes Resort and rented The Beach Cabin for a week. The Beach Cabin was beautiful the moment I walked in. It was cleaned well and put together very well. The decorations made it feel like a home on the beach. The kitchen had what we needed. I felt we needed more towels and all I had to do was ask and I got them. It was the perfect space for my immediate family.
My extended family of about 40 joined us in whole or part that week. This is the first time since I was a kid that we had (almost) EVERYONE on my mom’s side on vacation together. All my aunts and uncles couldn’t stop talking about having their entire families there (kids and grandkids). Even my 97 (almost 98) year old grandma enjoyed her time there! My family rented out Family Suites and Junior Suites. They bragged all week about how nice their rooms were.
The outdoor living area (commons area for all guests) was gorgeous with a lot of seating areas and a beautiful beach. It accommodated everyone from my family as well as other guests that were there. We often moved the furniture around to fit our needs and the property manager would have everything moved back, looking great, by the time we were up the next morning.
We had amazing weather during our week there. My family enjoyed renting kayaks and paddle boards while down on the beach. The resort Makes it super easy for adults and kids to have a blast!
We had one day of rain. But it didn’t keep anyone from having a good time. There is a great arcade on the property that allows kids and adults to play pool, x-box, darts, video games, And a lot more! My kids were in there every day!
There is a lot to do in town as well if you like to venture out. We explored the Fort Gratiot Lighthouse, Tierney Park, a local bike path and enjoyed good food in the area at places like The Wind Jammer and the Alli Bar.
I would recommend this resort for anyone looking for a great place to stay on one of our great lakes!
Moe and Khalil helped make this a great time for the whole...
