I moved away approximately 7 years ago to Colorado for work.
I grew up in Jackson, and MacCready reserve has been a haven for peace, quiet, and natural connection.
A few years ago, this place was in danger of losing its protected status.
A few years ago we all collectively fought to ensure this beautiful and rare place remained accessible to the public.
The natural wonders that reside here humble me every time. The fen alone is my highlight. I love that we have one of the rarest wetland biomes just sitting here in the midst of beauty and untouched nature.
Sure this place was for farming once many years ago, but the family gave this land to the community around them. I can only hope MSU and my fellow Michiganders will continue to preserve, study, and protect this sacred place.

Read moreWonderful place to hike. Weather not the best when I went but it was beautiful anyway. Saw a deer before I was on the trail for 5 minutes. Trails were in good shape and well marked. I just wandered and ended up doing quite a bit of hiking on the blue trail (said to be the most difficult.) Personally, I didn't think it was bad at all--some hills but nothing terrible, but I hike regularly so it might prove more challenging to novice hikers. Read moreThe Nature Reserve has some great trails. On the wall facing the parking lot near the entrance there is a trail map posted with some distances. None of the trails are particularly difficult but they are all well maintained, are marked at sensible intervals and at all forks/diversions. The views are great, too.
