Mushroom Mountain — Attraction in Liberty

Huge disappointment. The staff is very rude, act as if they don’t really care or want anyone there. Tried calling on the phone and asked a simple question about the place and what they offer there, only to be met with “what are you talking about?” Did not even respond when I said thank you and goodbye. Upon visiting the store which is a very far and time consuming drive from civilization, the lady in the store simply watched us and barely offered any insight or guidance for our experience. The shop contains books, jewelry, and packaged dry fungi which can be bought anywhere, nothing of real substance or interest. We didn’t buy anything because there really wasn’t anything to buy, upon leaving asked if we could walk around the grounds. It was interesting to see some of the mushrooms there, but even still I feel like there isn’t enough passion and effort being put into this place. For something that has such an appeal and excitement for mushroom lovers, this place is a HUGE disappointment and I would suggest to the proprietors to change their staff or change their ethic if you want people to really...

I ordered quite a few sawdust spawn bags this year, feeling out which companies offer the best. I must say, the spawn I’ve received from mushroom mountain far surpasses any other company. The substrate is extremely well colonized, uniform white, and almost immediately started spreading into the bulk substrate of my outdoor beds. I am very happy with this portion of my purchases from them, and will likely be ordering from them again in the future. However, both of my orders did have issues on the administration side. The first time I was sent the wrong product (which they quickly replaced with the correct spawn), and the second order was apparently forgotten by fed ex pick up, which MM did not catch…and pushed my inoculation time back by a week. I’m unsure if these ones will have time to establish. As I said, I will likely order from them again, however I would give time for mistakes, and not depend on the order to come through correctly the first time. I am writing from Western NC after ordering from you online about a year ago. At that time, we’d just been devastated by Hurricane Helene and were scrambling to create meaning and change from out of the wreckage. One of the projects my partner and I poured ourselves into was to salvage as many downed logs as we could to grow mushrooms. I’d grown and sold shiitakes at a farmer’s market in the past and used the opportunity to share this skill with my community. We inoculated for days and days, opening the activity to folks in our valley. I ordered loads of spawn and none of it went to waste!! We have harvested so many mushrooms already! Several neighbors now have small mushroom piles at their homes and are harvesting from them. A group of us also started a community garden since Helene, and inoculated the garden paths with wine caps. I am so happy with how the connections continue to grow between us-like mycelium-as we create stronger community and a more resilient food system.
