We spent an entire day there on a recent vacation to Loon Mountain with our extended family. From our first meeting with the Station Master, as we entered the park, until our final encounter when we left the park, we were treated by staff in a friendly manner. The train ride was a little hokey with the Wolfman and the scratchy sound system, but otherwise the park was a 2 thumbs up.
We saw the bear show, enjoyed it very much, and talked to the trainer afterward. We were glad to learn that the bears are treated well and do not suffer any abuse other than perhaps putting on an extra pound or two with all the ice cream rewards that they get.
As the senior member of the group, who was driving, and wanted to stay dry, my favorite attraction was the Water Blaster Boats. I was able to stay relatively dry, while still being able to squirt boat passengers from the relative safety of the viewing dock. I was blindsided a few times by folks, not part of our group, but remained mostly dry and was far better off than those in the boats.
The circus performers were fantastic and showed a lot of athleticism and dexterity. The boys made several climbs of the rock wall and really enjoyed the shooting gallery. There were plenty of activities for all ages.
Update for July 2019. We returned again this year with an even larger group of family members and we all enjoyed the experience from toddlers to grandparents. I have a word of caution, however, regarding the Water Blaster Boats. Should you want to stay on the deck and spray the boaters, do it when your family is off doing something else, thus you can shoot the squirt cannons at strangers. I made the mistake of trying to do it when 12 of my family members were in the boats. Not only did they all gang up on me but they enlisted the help of strangers in the other boats and I became "The Target". I might have come away less wet if I...
Read moreThe park itself isn’t bad. Plenty of things to do included in admission like the train ride, bear show, rock climbing wall, Segway ride, they have a museum with old fire engines and everything from food to drinks are relatively cheap. But 3 stars because of the train ride. I have 2 younger brothers that have autism one is 17 the other is 7. The 17 year old was fine with it but the 7 year old was a mess with the guns climbing in my dad’s arms covering his ears and crying. We knew about the wolf man but never knew that he had a gun and a cannon and every 2 minutes would shoot it at the train (no bullets in it but it was very loud). I did research ahead of time on the website and it does say “note to parents, please use your discretion for your preschool children” but no mention of why it says that or any mention of a gun or cannon. The pictures don’t show anything with a gun either and if it did, it’s really hard to notice (you’d have to look really into detail about it) There wasn’t any signage at the station that I could see either (I looked after at the entire platform on the park side and saw nothing). Not a fun experience as instead of enjoying the train ride, we would have to eye ball the wolf man driving and see what he had in his hands to alert him. Surprised there haven’t been other people with that experience either as we saw 2 other people on our train with the same issue
We would probably go back if we were ever in the area however would never do the train ride again because of it which is unfortunate because that was the one thing he was looking forward too that day. Wish they had actual signage or certain trains during the day where the wolf man wasn’t involved and it was just a train ride, would be a lot better for those families with young kids who hate guns or adults who have...
Read moreI love this place!!!! As a kid I loved this place, as a mom I love this place, and as a summer camp director I love this place!!!
~ I love that you can bring in your own food and they have lockers to store it in. ~I love the bear show. It is one of a kind and can't be beat. Even though it is the same show every year I still enjoy seeing it and still laugh at the silly jokes. ~I love that the rides are not huge roller coasters but are smaller more family friendly rides. They are better for younger kids and families. And the train ride, always a favorite although I can say that I do miss the original wolf man. The new wolf man is good but the former wolf man was AMAZING! He made that place what is it. RIP Wolf Man.
This review wouldn't be complete without telling you about an experience that we had a few years ago. Our son is special needs but he doesn't look like he is. Yet when we bought our tickets the woman behind the counter handed us a piece of paper. When we read it I was brought to tears. It was something that they came up that told us how our son could best enjoy their park. Where we could find a quiet spot to decompress, where the restrooms were, info on how and where to board with his wheelchair, which by the way looks like a stroller not a wheelchair. And more. Trust me when I say I have visited my share of theme parks and then some but never have I encountered anything like this. I was so very impressed and touched that they thought enough to prepare something like this. Even Disney (as of 3 years ago) didn't have anything like this. WAY TO GO CLARK"S!!!! You made our day more enjoyable by offering this one simple act of kindness.
We will see...
