Yesterday was the first time we have visited the farm in years. Overall the experience is fun, and the kids had a great time. However I was definitely disappointed at the price gouging. I feel that $25 per person (we bough day of tickets because all other options that worked with our schedule for the week were sold out) was much too high for the experience they provided.
We went on their opening day and it seemed like they were not prepared. We arrived at 9:30ish (30min into our tickets time slot) and the staff was still setting up checkout counters. Additionally, I was extremely disappointed to find that not everything was as advertised on their website. Many of the "Picnic and Play" activities they have advertised on their website were not present at the farm when we were there. The activities that were not present were Small Jump Pad Short film cinema in the barn -Various other games for children and adults Cornhole -100’s of authentic Dutch wooden shoes on a stage to “klomp” around in
Things to note : 1)They don't sell any water except for at the check out stations by the entrance. We had to wait in line for at least 10/15 min, so unless you want to walk all the way down to the entry and wait in that line, bring tons of water! 2) There are no concession stands. They had a taco food truck that showed up at some point during our visit, but no other food/drink options. 3) If you have little ones, take a stroller. It is a lot of walking. The fields are spread out and the children's activities are up the hill past the entry area. The tulips are a bit further back. If you want specific color, you might have to walk pretty far to get to them (we liked the lavender ones but had to walk pretty far into the fields to get to them/find them). 4) If you have little ones, I recommend closed shoes. The ground was very rocky and "pebbly" and my little one kept complaining about rocks in her shoes. 5) DONT GO IN THE TRAIN CABOOSE. It is infested with bees and wasps!! 6) They count by flower, not by stem. We had picked 2 stems with more then one flower and they charged us per flower, not per stem.
Overall, we had fun, but it was definitely overpriced for what it was. If you are an adult going without kids, you will be paying $19/$25 for 5 flowers and long lines. Personally, I am not sure we...
Read moreBurnside Farms is a charming and picturesque destination in Northern Virginia, perfect for families, couples, and nature lovers alike. Known for its stunning seasonal flower festivals, especially the spring tulip and summer sunflower events, this family-owned farm offers a colorful escape into nature. Visitors can stroll through acres of blooming fields, take beautiful photos, and even pick their own flowers to take home. The tulip festival, featuring over a hundred varieties, is particularly breathtaking and gives off a vibrant, European-style ambiance that’s hard to find locally.
In the summer, the sunflower fields create a golden sea of blooms, attracting photographers and picnic-goers alike. The farm is well-organized and kid-friendly, with ample parking, clean facilities, and plenty of shaded areas to relax. There's also a play area for children, occasional food trucks, and small market stands with local produce and farm goods.
The atmosphere at Burnside Farms is peaceful and welcoming. Staff members are friendly and helpful, enhancing the overall experience. The ticket prices are fair, and advance reservations are usually recommended during peak bloom periods. While it can get crowded during weekends, visiting on a weekday morning offers a quieter, more intimate experience.
Burnside Farms is more than just a place to admire flowers—it’s an opportunity to reconnect with nature, enjoy quality time with loved ones, and take home lasting memories (and beautiful blooms). Whether you're a local or visiting from out of town, this scenic farm is absolutely...
Read moreI visit every year for the tulips. It's beautiful. But there are some concerns that I hope the management will look into.
The line to get in - even when (I think) everyone has their tickets already and most just need a QR code scanned - was a 15 minute wait. I think a lot of that could be cut back if they didn't have to tell each customer about the stems, bulbs, returning the baskets, having an adult carry the basket, etc. Just post the rules.
The daffodils are now up front and the tulips are at the waaay back of the fields, which was slightly annoying because the majority of people come for the tulips, not daffodils.
The. Line. To. Exit. 😑 We waited all of 30 minutes to pay for our flowers. It felt like 3 hours. It was hot and there was no shade until you got under the roof. We were told to go wrap our flowers and then get back in line (buuut at the end again). Lots of people were confused. It was chaotic and miserable. Just having employees directing us what to do before we stand in line for nothing and where to go would be so helpful. There doesn't seem to be a need for 2 cashiers at each pay station when there's only one card reading machine.
My last gripe - it's a small one but they only take credit/debit cards (no cash) which usually is fine but I got out cash today for the tulips just so I wouldn't overspend. Just a sign maybe at the front saying cards only is helpful or in the confirmation email (sorry if there was one and I didn't see it)
Thanks for letting me provide my feedback. Looking forward...
