Was a nice little zoo for two, until we got to the little critter building. The animals in the little critter area need WAY more space. One of the animals in the top left tank was far too big for the tank they had it in with no enrichment. It was laying down and staring out the glass depressed. Ive owned GPs for years and that is NOT in any way shape or form to house them. They should be active and full of personality. This one was the opposite. It wasnt even a case of being tired. My heart broke looking at it. You have an animal that is approxinately the size of a rabbit, about a foot long and 6 inches wide, in a fish tank that is maybe 3 feet at best by 1.5 feet. Insanity. If my phone hadnt died I'd have gotten a picture. Guinea Pigs need far more storage than that to thrive and something in the cage to play with. Makes me wonder if the poor thing ever gets to get out and run too.
And that doesnt even bring me to mention the mosquito issue. They are everywhere and vicious. The zoo needs to look into those safe dunks to put in their water features. They make ones that are cheap and safe for animals and children to be around and drink. If you go here stay out of the critter building by the Education Building and Wolf enclosure, and bring bug...
Read morePriced according to size and animals $8 per adult which is extremely reasonable. Very small not meant for large crowds like big city zoos. Very dissatisfied and disappointed with animal health and size of enclosures. The Arctic wolf 'bella' was unhealthy and way underfed for her size and her enclosure was as small as the red fox. The 1 zebra had an Acer and a half maybe 2 while both the grey and artic wolf maybe had 800sq ft....... If lucky......... Could see ribs in both body and legs very small considering what the animal should resemble. 1 kangaroo had a larger enclosure then 80% of the other animals. All of the enclosures themselves we're over grown and not maintained what so ever. Weeds completely run the place except where humans walk. Sad place if you have never seen what these animals are supposed to be living in and look like. Understanding of the fact that it's a small town zoo and maintenance and good help is hard to find but it is possible volunteers are an option and moving animals to different locations would be a good start to...
Read moreI remember visiting this place back when I was a young girl. Back way before made all these changes. It was before they charged any admission. I remember my parents and I would drive through and check out the animals all the time. Pine Grove Zoo has changed so much over the years. I love what they've done with the place. Although they charge admission it's not that expensive compared to other places. It's not a real big zoo but there's still plenty of things to do. I was surprised with how many animals and exhibits they have now compared to the last time I visited. There wasn't really and empty exhibits. My daughter who is almost 13 had a lot of fun. It was a very hot day when we were there so a lot of the animals were in the shade trying to stay cool. The food wasn't extremely expensive and it was really yummy! Plus they lady that took our order and made our food was really nice and friendly. It was nice to get out for the day and see something different...
