AMAZING PLACE located 7 miles northwest from Mayo, FL. A rare gem 💎 we all should cherish and protect! We fell in LOVE 💖 with Lafayette Blue Springs State Park 💖 from the very first sight.
There are two springs next to each other. They are one of 33 first magnitude springs and can accomodate a healthy amount of nature lovers not to mention highly specialized scuba divers. Imagine daily discharge of up to 168 million gallons.
I learned that all and more from super nice, kind, humble, and very knowledgeable Park Ranger, Ms. Susan! THANK YOU so MUCH Ms. SUSAN! You made my whole day that morning!!! Dear visitor when you are lucky enough to meet her please treat her like a queen. "She is a gem" 💎 and it has been confirmed with management as well over the very nice telephone conversation (no kidding). Now I know that being around Ms. Susan is contagious, so many super nice 😍 and well mannered individuals (a pleasure to talk to). 👍 Ms. Susan deserves the best, she takes great care of this breathtaking place for YOU, so you can enjoy it fully and immensly! Appreciate that.
The spring water temperature is 72 F all year long. For some people it will be a trigger to check it out and for some it would mean staying rather away than too close. 🌝 The most amazing thing of this natural delight is the fact that both springs are joined (test it how) and they join with Suwannee River as you can see on some pictures below. You can feel the difference in temperature while you swimm. The spring current is rather strong and very effective. It will give you a good work out (I promise). Do not be afraid if you have small children, there is a quite wide shore by the Suvanne River, where you can enjoy sandy beach and let your todller 🏊 "swimm" safely under your watch. Really neatly organized, kudos to the whole Park Rangers team.
Check out the boat ramp. Our daughter went there fishing for the very first time and boom: BINGO - almost cought a boafin. Also - enjoy your stay at super neat and clean cabins! There are just few of them so it is never crawded and you enjoy privacy. You have all you need to cook and bake and dine. Do not forget to go grocery shopping earlier though. 🤔
There is also a camping site, however, camp sites are not too big so plan accordingly. Also, check the weather forecast and if swimming area is OPEN to public. Ask Ms. Susan why you should know.....
There is one more reason why I would love to come back there again. We enjoyed the beautiful weather with almost zero mosquitos, had such a good time at the Blue Springs or by the Suvannee River or at the cabin that we did not have much time left to explore the Green Sink Trail (1.5 mile) which starts right there, in front of you, to the left of the 🚻 restrooms so you cannot miss it. 👍
This is the longest review I have ever given out of over 70 by far so please imagine yourself how much we fancy this GOD given place. It has amazingly good energy, brings you peace and makes you feel one with nature - literally an organic...
Read moreReally great park for camping, fishing, boating, etc. The springs in the area sometimes become overrun with the connecting Suwannee River, leaving the springs too far under the dark river waters to see the beautiful light blue waters from the spring. Unfortunately this was the case during our stay. However, we all know the state park camping department doesn't control mother nature! Lol We stayed in a cabin. The cabin was absolutely breathtaking to see upon arrival. They're all on stilts!!! Cabin 1 is the cabin designated for handicap guests. It's got an elevator and a large walk in (ride in) shower and the doorways and halls have plenty of room to maneuver around. The 2 bedroom, 1 bathroom cabin came complete with a separate living room, kitchen, and dining room. The electric fireplace was in the living room. The whole cabin had stylish decor and a very cozy feel. The kitchen was complete!!! Full size fridge, dishwasher, oven, microwave, stove, coffee pot. They provided dishes, silverware, pots and pans, many different utensils for various uses, a knife block and soaps with a kitchen rag to clean it all up. The cabin provides all linens and towels you'll need to accommodate your visit and if you need more, they provide all the necessary information to ensure you have a comfortable stay. You'll fall in love with the wrap around porch with rocking chairs. All cabins porches are facing east to catch the sunrise as you drink your coffee and listen to all the wonderful bird songs and rustling wildlife in the morning. The fire ring near the picnic table outside is really great on a chilly night and the charcoal grill had a Blackstone plate!!! Cooking on the open fire or the convenient grill with Blackstone made for some of the best meals we've ever made! Highly recommend staying here where you're super close to so many different springs and trail heads for hiking/biking. Boating and fishing is certainly worth the trip alone, it's a really gorgeous kayaking trip. But those cabins!!!!!!! We'll definitely be staying again, it brings glamping to a...
Read moreGiving this one star because no where on their website does it say this Park is closed for repairs. We were camping in the area and being Floridians it's our goal to visit every Florida State Park, so we decided to drive over and explore. Vehicle GPS and RVTRIPWIZARD took us to a no longer accessible South entrance. No biggie, a local gave us directions and off we went. Found the Southern entrance but the gate was not manned. Just a quick drive through, saw some cabins and could see the nearby river but thought the Northern portion would be better. Back on the main road for a two mile drive to the North entrance to find "Park is closed indefinitely". Gate was open but that was to allow clean up/repair crews in. One truck did stop and commented they had just today finished cleaning the Southern portion and were starting on the Northern section. Well darn, would have been nice to see this updated on...
