A Perfect Day at Del Valle Regional Park!

We recently spent a full day at Del Valle Regional Park near Livermore, California, and I have to say — it was a fantastic experience that I’d highly recommend to anyone living in or visiting the East Bay.

We went with family and friends and had a perfect picnic outing. From the moment we arrived, we were struck by the natural beauty of the place. Surrounded by rolling hills, the lake glistening in the sun, and the peaceful sound of nature, it was hard to believe we were less than an hour’s drive from the East Bay!

We brought food and supplies for a barbecue, and the park’s picnic areas were just what we needed. There were plenty of tables, barbecue grills, shaded spots, and open space for the kids to run around. The environment felt safe, friendly, and clean — exactly the kind of place you’d want to relax and unwind with your loved ones.

One of the highlights of our day was swimming in the lake. The designated swimming area is well-marked and had just the right balance of fun and safety. The water was clean and refreshing — perfect for cooling off in the summer sun. The kids absolutely loved it, and so did the adults! We also saw a few people kayaking and paddleboarding, which we might try next time.

What impressed me most was how well-maintained the park was. The restrooms were clean — a huge plus when you’re spending the whole day outdoors, especially with children. There were also ample trash bins around, helping everyone do their part in keeping the park tidy. It’s clear the park staff care about making this space enjoyable for everyone.

The views around the lake are absolutely stunning, especially as the sun begins to set. We took a short walk along one of the trails and were treated to some amazing vistas — definitely a great spot for photography lovers. Even if you’re just there to relax, sitting by the water and taking in the peaceful surroundings was a treat in itself.

What made the day extra special was sharing it with people we care about. It’s rare to find a place that has something for everyone — open space, nature, water activities, good facilities — and Del Valle hits all the right notes. It gave us time to disconnect from busy routines and just enjoy being present.

Whether you’re planning a casual weekend barbecue, a nature walk, or a fun day at the lake, Del Valle Regional Park is a gem that’s super convenient for East Bay residents. We’re already planning our next visit — maybe even a camping trip!

Thank you, Del Valle, for such a...

Last weekend we camped at Del Valle Reservoir for the first time. We had lovely sites with full hookup. No wasp or mosquitoe issues. Our intention was to SUP and Kayak( for my daughters birthday) but that didn't happen. As we were inflating, a ranger came by and made us aware of a mandatory inspection of our crafts (all inflatable) before we can put in lake. Ok...so we'll go get that done...but no we couldn't, because their internet was down! WTH! I asked what the inspection entailed, its a visual inspection to ensure your craft is dry....So why is internet required for that? I found out they check a data base to see if you failed any previous inspections. Well we NEVER EVER had to get an inspection anywhere, so we have not failed. We were not allowed to launch. If we did fish and game could/would fine us. I call BS! Del Valles system needs a upgrade! Also it took 1 1/2 hours for our son in law just to get back into Del Valle on Saturday afternoon. He was already checked in with us camping, but left the park to run a errand. He still had to sit in the long line to go through the only entry line open. Sadly the whole Del Valle system is flawed when it comes to guest services.. Sure hope they improve. I never saw anything about this while booking our reservations nor were we told / asked about it at the gate. BTW all fees need to be paid at the gate. The boat inspection site does not collect any money. Geeezzzz! I understand and agree with the caution regarding invasive clams/mussels. But I call BS on their guest services. Ruined our purpose for going there. BTW another camper said they also had to wait over an hour to get back into the park to their campsite. They asked the attendant working the kiosk how to avoid the long line to reenter. She said DON'T LEAVE THE...

Kayaker, camper, fisher looked for some place new that was still a decent drive from where I live. If you want to fish for something besides carp this will not be for you! Literally this place is rittled with carp fish (because only skilled carp fishers can get them on a hook, and who wants carp?) Got to the spot bright and early and excited. Once we were informed you will be paying for a fishing permit (which if you already have a CA fishing license why would you pay this?!) Then got our kayaks inspected, which has a fee! Okay I get that part. But we almost got denied because of the little water residue from pressure washing our kayaks (not a boat and payed a boat fee) you also have a parking fee! God forbid you unload your kayaks anywhere besides the boat ramp. I had to to go to town and get something so left the kayak trailer behind, cop comes and takes photos of it like it stolen! By time I started heading back my other half said this place sucks let's leave! So kayaks never made it in the water and we decided to take off. Some undercover park worker came when we where loading up, not unloading saying we cannot load in parking lot! And where is our inspections?! By then I was like 30.00 later for day use frustrated, mention to him we are actually leaving!

Also, for the del valle pond you can see in photos I have uploaded there fees.

This place is like the housing authority for a park! Oh and it's not a lake it is more like a POND.

So if you want good fishing and to NOT be harrased on your Sunday by the workers I would go somewhere else.

If you have kids, want to ride your bike or walk your dog and want to pay there fee for anything you do then this is a great...
