Disappointing and expensive. You’d find more nature at a neighborhood park in the middle of the city.
The trail itself is mediocre at best with a waaaaay out of code paved bridge/dam over a river right in front of the entrance. This whole area was obviously waste land from one of the nearby vineyards that was cut bare, determined to be unusable, then left to overgrow. There are cute but extraordinarily naïve “learn about nature” factoids scattered along the trail highlighting the early bio-successional species one may find in such a stripped and barren ecosystem. The grift of this place is just unbelievable.
Link to the annual parking pass is also broken so you’re forced to pay for a whole day of parking no matter how much time you spend there. Also, you’ve got to love the fact that they patrol the parking lot for fee evaders but then have the gall to put up a big sign saying they won’t stop anyone from breaking into your vehicle.

Read moreApril 23 update, majority of park is closed yet they will not tell you so people come in for big disappointment after they pay parking and walk into closed trail signs everywhere. Even larpd website won't tell you it is mostly closed up. Ridiculous totally mismanaged patch of land with few trails.
Pretty much dead land, officials threat it like a natural germ. Your huge CA taxes is not enough so let's charge extra for this place. On labor day weekend let's close it so park 'employees' can party and let's claim it is due to extreme fire hazard, most people will eat this story. Oh almost forgot, let's closes some more paths and claim natural recovery area (meaning dry grass) so this small park can be reduced even more while more people...
Read moreThis was my 1st visit to Sycamore Grove. I was truly impressed with the cleanliness of the bathrooms, the trails were clearly marked and the ranger was always patrolling the area. My friend and I took the main trail out on horseback. The trail we took was nicely groomed and flat which was perfect for the particular horses we rode that day. Just over a 5 mile round trip. This is definitely one of my favorite places to ride as the creek that's fed by Del Valle dam runs year round. Perfect to let the horses play in the water on a hot day. We encountered lots of hikers, bikers and wildlife. Alot of reviewers complained about the $7 entrance fee, I happily paid the fee, it's obvious the money is going toward maintaining such...
