This is an absolutely gorgeous trail, but make sure you understand the difference between the two types of hikes you can do. Most people hike the mile to the waterfall, which is lovely but rather crowded. It’s also an extremely easy trail, wide and not very rocky. We wanted a longer hike, so we continued on toward the lake. As soon as we got past the waterfall, the number of fellow hikers plummeted. We saw one couple when we paused for some snacks, and another couple returning from an overnight stay at the lake. Of note is that both were doing overnight trips. We thought we’d be able to reach the lake and get back on the road in four hours, but we hadn’t factored in the steep, rocky ascent of the four miles after the waterfall. Sadly, we turned back before we reached the lake and were pretty pooped by the time we reached the car again. It was a beautiful hike, though, with lots of streams and waterfalls to pique the interest. I’d love to try it again as an...
Read moreThis is not an easy hike. The elevation gain after the falls is insane. Me my wife and daughter attempted to make the lake but unfortunately did not make it. Coming from Minnesota where we hike a lot and I do mean a lot we were just not ready for the altitude. Though we did not make it this time we will be back and try again. I will say with every step came a better view and all the people we met on the trail ( and there was a bunch) were all super nice and gave great word of encouragement and affirmation both of what we had already accomplished and for what lies ahead. I have found I...
Read moreThe waterfalls were great, Having seen the first two waterfalls (side by side) Crossing the bridge, and crossing the log-jam, we assended perhaps 1/2 mile up some switchbacks to the top of the waterfall where there is a small path off to the left. this takes you to a place where you can overlook the falls. To the left of the river is a depression, and a comfortable place to hang out while safely remaining a yard from the cliff edge. Looking down you can see where the water divides to go down the left and right waterfalls. We must have sat there for and hour before reluctantly...
