My family and I attended Jack Pine's 'Glass Blowing Workshop: Pumpkins with Nick Folz.'

I'll start with the two complaints: There weren't enough spaces in one class to accommodate my six-person group, but the website said we could contact them about setting up a class for a bigger group. We did, but no one responded. The website could do a better job explaining what we'd be making. It said there were three classes but offered no examples/explanations of the classes aside from the names of the products: heart paperweight, ornament, and pumpkin. Pictures would have been appreciated.

Other than that, the experience exceeded our expectations. Checking in was straightforward, and the woman at the front desk made setting up the shipping easy (we had six pumpkins from two classes going to three addresses).

The class started on time. Nick explained what we'd be doing and broke it down into individual steps. He showed us the colors we could choose from and examples from other classes, then gave us time to choose our base, accent, and stem colors.

We made the pumpkins one person at a time, with Nick guiding us through each step. We manipulated the glass to keep its shape while it was super hot, rolled it in the colors, heated it back up, shaped it more, and (if we wanted) blew it into the round pumpkin shape and then into a mold that gave it the pumpkin ridges. We also broke the pumpkin off the blow rod, but because of something to do with the heat, timing, and glass flexibility (or something like that), Nick made the stems.

And although making a pumpkin took only about 10 minutes per person, waiting for everyone else to make their pumpkins was anything but boring. Nick didn't complain as we followed our classmates around, taking pictures/videos of them making their pumpkins.

He's also clearly excellent at multi-tasking because throughout this process, he answered questions about himself, glass blowing – and everything else we asked!

Awesome experience. I learned a lot about glass blowing and now have a cute decoration for my house and a fun story to go with it.

I highly recommend doing this. And try to get Nick as...

Our family came to The Jack Pine Studio to celebrate my parents anniversary. We had ten reserved slots in classes to each create a glass art piece. Jack greeted us kindly and made sure we were all prepared to safely begin our lessons. The ladies who registered us were friendly and welcoming to everyone as well. We divided into two groups of five and the young men who were our teachers began to educate us on the process. They let us practice a few of the maneuvers, then proceeded to allow each one of us to create a piece of glass. These young men were the most patient and helpful teachers. They constantly watched out for our safety and helped each of us to design our chosen glass piece. We couldn't have had a more wonderful experience. Afterwards, the ladies took care of all of our packaging and shipping needs, and in less than a week, everything arrived at our home in South Carolina in perfect shape. You could tell that our pieces were packaged so carefully, as if they were items created by Jack Pine himself. Before we left, Jack was extremely gracious and went out of his way to wish my parents a happy 60th anniversary. I would recommend this studio to anyone who is in the area. You can shop, watch and learn while they create, or even reserve a time to come create your own glass...

This is a must-stop when visiting the area! They had lots of unique art items to view and purchase. Be sure to take some time to watch the talented artists in action. While focused on their art, they were very friendly and willing to talk about their work. It was quite interesting to see how quickly a glob of glass could become a beautiful and intricate piece. The skilled artists seemed to dance with their projects and made it look so effortless. While there are a plethora of items to view and buy, there are various prices, and you're sure to find a great keepsake (or keepsakes) to add to the memory of your trip! The staff were helpful and friendly and took great care in wrapping our purchase for the trip back. They were even willing to share knowledge on other places to shop in the area. (We had asked, and they weren't "pushy" at all.) This stop was definitely worth...

We have no words for this studio. We are beyond blown away, pleased and so very excited with the amazing custom pumpkin we received. We came down on our honeymoon and watched these artists for quite some time. They are so professional and knowledgeable in their craft. They talked us through each step and we found it very entertaining. So entertaining we came back the next day and had a custom pumpkin done with our wedding colors. We can't thank you all enough from start to finish with our experience. I ended up buying an ash tray also because his work was amazing. I'm sorry I forget his name but his initials are JH.

Details, details, details! I've been to Jack Pine Studio several times, but this year I took a toy to donate and boy was I impressed with the amount and quality of toys! Better yet, all the donations stay right in the township in Hocking County. Love this! I took a photo of the snow person that is on my "wish" list. I did enjoy looking at all the other artists wares. Wish they were Ohio-based though. I know people buy and collect the pumpkins, but there are window catchers, seasonal items, and other glass items that are just as pretty as the collector pumpkins. the demonstrations are fascinating to watch too.
