Great new bridge. It's like driving onto some titanic ship, maybe even space ship. The two great concrete towers of the bridge are between (in middle) of the two sides of freeway with huge suspension cables that shoot down diagonally like falling stars. As you pass over the tall apex of bridge...you can see the very top off the old Bridge they are dismantling soon! Imagine all those tons of steel coming down. Read moreRecently renamed the Long Beach International Gateway, though I'm sure many of us will continue to refer to it by its predecessor bridge's name, the Gerald Desmond Bridge. Very impressive and a lot higher up than the old one (to accommodate for the huge cargo ships). Its span seems a lot longer too. Definitely a new icon of Long Beach, especially with its distinctive nighttime illumination. And of course, no toll both ways, just like the Vincent...
