We took two of our grandkids to Folsom Lake for the day. We had a nice picnic lunch at a table in the shade of a tree. We didn't use it, but there was a BBQ close by.
We went to a swimming area that is marked by bouys. The swim area is very large. The picnic area starts at the edge of the parking lot. Next, there is a downslope of maybe 50 yards to the water. The lake is pretty full. The bottom of the swim area is soft and pretty clean. There is plenty of shallow water for little kids. We ended up in about five feet of water. The water was not shockingly cold, but was very pleasant.
The facility has a lot of parking, including spaces for the disabled. There are clean bathrooms. A guy had a supply of water toys like floats and kayaks available for rent. There was no food service available while we were there.
We drove to Folsom from Vacaville. It took about an hour and ten minutes. It's an easy drive. You pay $12 for day use at the lake. We've been there twice and have had a good time. We have only been there on weekdays and it wasn't overly crowded, but I suspect it is pretty full on weekends. We like the place and will continue...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreThey've ruined this park for the second year in a row. Not only can you not drive to the most beautiful side of the park you can't even Park in the lower portion of the main lot, where you can walk around and get good exercise. I'm just curious what gives them the right to ruin this park for the second year in a row?
Disgusting lack of care for your community doing this to us yet again. A waste of 120.00 park pass. If they want to do something good for this park, they should add shade to the parking lot.. at the main beach, there's literally no shade. FYI, just because you have to work when you come here doesn't mean that you should take the joy out of this park for every patron that visits. We know that's what you're trying to do.
Just because you're miserable doesn't mean you have the right to make every patron here miserable also. You think they'd be happy to have a nice job but these state park rangers are some of the most aggressive weirdos I've ever met.
That's my two cents on the park that you ruined. Do better and...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreI was not impressed, but please read the entire review! With parks like it really depends on what you came for. There were tons of people out riding bikes so I imagine it is a great place for that.
I go to beaches because I love the sand for relaxing in while reading a book. Not the best beach for that. The sand is rocky and muddy and there are only certain places I could not walk without shoes without it being painful. It was also a $12 entry fee. The only state park that I have paid more than that for was Yosemite. All of the other local parks that I travel to in Florida and California are an average of $5.
That was the negative. On a positive note my 5 year old son and my 5 month old puppy loved it. They had no problem with the rocks or the mud. I went in March and there were almost no other people on the beach although there were numerous bikers on the trail that runs parallel...
