Dark Sky New Mexico — Attraction in Lordsburg

This place is an astronomers dream no matter what your level. If you have a passion for the night sky this is not to be missed. Traveled from Florida to see the night sky on the new moon. Due to a late start and a brake down on the road that cost me a day of travel I arrived on the last night before the moon would once again show itself. My hosts were beyond hospitable and made me feel welcome. I got a tour of the facilities and learned a great deal. There are a few RV spaces with full hook up, several cabin rentals, and I believe they have some other type of accomodations for rent but call to verify. The New Mexican mountains are beautiful. I have never been to NM and had always imagined it flat. I arrived later in the afternoon, set up as I had driven the 5th wheel out and then was given a tour. The place is incredible. Met a couple from Phoenix and enjoyed talking to them. It was getting close to dark so we started setting up our equipment by our own camps. I brought my telescope and binoculars then sat back and watched the night sky come to life as I never remember seeing it. For the second time in my life I saw the night sky filled with an untold number of stars, I saw the planets and the Milky Way. I was in awe. From dark until about 2 a.m. I laid on a mat I had brought and looked heavenward. It was one of the most beautiful, humbling experiences of my life. I remember a scene from Roots when Kunta Kinte held his baby daughter, Kizzy, above his head and told her, "Behold, the only thing greater than yourself." Its true. The next morning before leaving I explored the property a little further as I wanted to see the various desert plants and rocks. ONE OF MY FAVORITE PLACES I VISTED, the owner is one of the sweetest people i’ve met. The place is breathtaking especially at night. The place has SO much potential, it’s especially cool for astrologists or people interested in astrology. I personally liked the fact that the place was a breather from life. Taking a break from everything and just surrounded by nature and the stars. They have beautiful horses there and the owner let me feed and pet them. The owner has a lot of great visions for the place and I love it. The pricing is more than reasonable. I would definitely come to this place with my family and kids would also love it there. Hopefully in the future I can come back again and see how much it progresses because like I said, the place has SO MUCH potential to it. If u want to go though, make sure to pack some food with you. The owner gave us pizza, which she didn’t have to do and we really appreciate her kindness. The interior design was beautiful also. I, and my family have been members of Dark Sky New America from the very beginning! The location is breath taking every day and night. The night sky is so clear, bright, and unobstructed! There are many active, remotely controlled observatories here now, and the site only continues to grow and improve. We have installed high speed fiber internet for amazing bandwidth when remote.
