So, if you define a 'Park' as "an area devoted to a specified purpose" then this place is a "park." The reality is that it is a large dirt field owned by the city where they store huge piles of gravel for road work. And they also have installed a number of ramadas with metal picnic tables and bbq grills. No toilets, not even pits. So you need to be self-contained. There is a metal archway over the main entrance and I wasn't sure I'd fit under it so we used the secondary entrance to the left. I was a little concerned about finding space since there are just 20 sites. The sites are not numbered. There is also plenty of extra space if you just need to stop for the night. There is a dumpster. I was glad to see about 8 other RV's here when we arrived. Looked like several had dropped their trailers and gone to get something to eat. There is nothing to do here and it's not much to look at, but great for a stop on the I-10. We were actually kind of glad to pull off when we did as winds were starting to pick up around 3pm. There is supposed to be water here. I found 5 spigots but none of them worked. They could use a camp host here. Many of the sites had overgrown weeds that needed to be cut back. Most of the ramadas at the front sites were in good condition. But many of the ones on the rear part of the property have fallen into disrepair with missing roofs and broken picnic tables. Pet owners beware as many people let their dogs off leash here. There is some illegal dumping in the back that hasn't been picked up. But a big thanks to the City of Lordsburg.
Do NOT come in the main entrance if you are tall. Use the secondary entrance/exit to the south of the main entrance to avoid...
Read moreVeterans Park is a city park just off of Interstate 10 that offers free camping and is also big rig friendly. We had plenty of room to parallel park our truck and fifth wheel trailer (50 feet long combined) next to one of the numerous covered picnic areas. In addition, the parking area was wide enough to open our three slides for the night. The roads are mostly graveled and hard-packed, but there are some dirt areas. Cellular service was awesome. Verizon clocked in at 61.2 Mbps download speed and 45.1 Mbps upload speed. AT&T clocked in at 59.3 Mbps download speed and 11.4 Mbps upload speed. The arched Veterans Park sign over the main entry does not have the height clearance posted, but our 13 feet, 6 inch rig cleared the arch with about a 12 inches to spare. There is another entrance to the park immediately past the main arch entrance with no height restriction. A dumpster is located to the rear of the park. Trains pass through all night, but this park is still a free overnight camping gem for the...
