Various dates of stay: 3-4 May 2018; 23-24 May 2019 (just before Memorial Day weekend); 17-19 Jun 2019; and 21-22 Jun 2019. Always have had an overall positive experience. I generally arrive without reservations. The 21 Jun 2019 trip (a Friday), the campground was full from the night before (I arrived at 7:45 am) and no spots opened throughout the day (that I was aware of); although I didn't check often. No big deal because there are Forest Roads within 2-5 miles from the park that provide ample space to camp (seek out mile marker 33 and mile marker 35 off of Highway 126, you will see Forest Road gates/entrances). As a matter of perspective, the front entrance of park is 1.6 miles from the furthest camping loop (Loop F). The park road certainly has its bumps and ruts, but without them people would be going way too fast. I received sporadic cell phone signal on southeast side of lake (Verizon). A friend had T-Mobile and never got any reception. The only downside (on all my trips) is that too many people leave trash at their fishing spots around the lake (bait containers, aluminum cans, jars, bags, etc). I'll never understand why people can't pick up...
Read moreI highly recommend this majestic and gorgeous location for camping. In my opinion, the NM State Parks are well maintained and better equipped then the federal campsites. The Park Rangers are very helpful and worked hard from dawn to dusk in upkeeping the facilities. The lake is beautiful. Fishing was not great this week. I understand that it is best to go in spring and fall for the fishing. The reserved camp sites are the best. Some are first come first serve. All of the camp ground sites are ample and have campfire rings and picnic tables. Ranger Manuel Sanchez and Staff are top notch. The security and environment was safe. Amanda's Country Store in La Cueva is the closest convenience store around. They are responible and friendly. THe also have of the camping equipment and needs. For beer or liquor runs, there is a so call package liquor store in Jemez Springs. It is a bar and the will sell you liquor. Don;t expect them to be competive with your local grocery or convenience store. You will pay extra. Outside the Jemez Pueblo before entering into Jemez Springs there is a liquor joint that is reasonable. The beauty of the drive was a great scenic route. Fenton...
