The entrance is at the end of a very narrow residential street with limited parking. Water runs down the middle of the street, and it turns out this water is from the stream that runs down the middle of the park. Just getting started required going up a steep flight of broken steps covered in running water, or bypassing them for a steep, narrow path. All the trails we saw in this park were narrow and uneven, and sometimes had no good place to step. Most of them seem to be right on the edge of something steep. I wouldn't want to fall into the creek, which is muddy and nearly stagnant in many places, as well as being surround by rocks and sharp branches that would make a fall very painful. It doesn't look like these trails are maintained. It's true the park is very pretty and green, and that the trails are mostly shady (something that's hard to find in L.A.) But the condition of the trails made us decide not to go very far. It just wasn't fun.

I had a early morning visit to Dixie Canyon park today, seeking out very local hikes to my new home in Sherman Oaks. It was chilly and overcast, not a typical August morning but it was just perfect. The paths are unmarked and a bit unmanaged which I found to be perfectly fine. I love the wilderness aspect. Rugged terrain and challenge. It is not an easy hike. It is moderate. Some pretty loose footing and hilly. Parking is not easy. You best park a few blocks below and walk up to the entrance. Thank you Warren Beatty for this gift. I will enjoy it frequently.

Wanted to try a new place close to home found this in hiking suggestions. Interesting little back trail inside a residential area of Sherman oaks. Trails are strategically thin and can get steep.. unmarked so be aware a trail might lead no where or have been overgrown. Wear good shoes and be prepared for a mini adventure. I only di a bit over 1/2 mile. I will go back to find other routes.

Hello, I've taken this trail 2 years ago and afterwards had the worst rash that spread from my arms to my legs. After a couple of days I had to go to urgent care where I was prescribed prednisone and ringworm. Fast forward last week, I decided to take the trail again with some friends. Let me tell you, NOBODY is taking care of this park. It seems like there is an invasive plant species and it was literally everywhere. It was spiky, grew all over the trail, and covered literally everything. What do you know, I got the rashes again after being poked a hundred times. I unfortunately had to cut the hike short with my friends and told them it is unkempt and dangerous. It's nice and covered in greenery, but not worth the muddy steep trails, overgrown spiky plants, and a trip to...

This isn’t really a “hike.” I saw a lower single track trail and one upper. Both sort of petered out. It was not good after the recent rain. It might be possible to “bush whack” through, but it was slippery and full of spider webs today (after heavy rains). Quite brushy on the sides of the upper trail switchbacks. Probably have spiders in my hair after going through and some weedy remnants from brushing against plants growing up on the sides of the trail. Saw numerous snake holes adjacent to the trails. Interesting to see the little canyon but not really safe to proceed along with how slippery and rocky and muddy it was after a lot of rain. Otherwise, wild and pretty for a...
