This is just about my favorite secret hiking spot. While not abandoned, the part is not spoiled by crowds . The terrain here is versatile enough that a traditionally sedentary person simply wishing to get the most out of some beautiful weather could enjoy some very light outdoor excersize on their first visit and very gradually increase their level of exertion on subsequent visits, eventually transforming their physical condition and subsequent overall health. The hiking trails feature delightful panoramas of the San Fernando Valley in a largely undisturbed landscape featuring prodigious sandstone formations so resplendent and aesthetically captivating that thousands of classic Motion Pictures (i.e. "The Lone Ranger") have harnessed their unique splendor to enhance their storytelling. The park has a rich and interesting history that predates it's use in and effect on 20th century show businesses. It's well-documented past even goes back hundreds of years past its role as critical Stagecoach infrastructure in the 19th century. With minor preparation prior to visiting, the park also affords visitors with ample opportunities for hands-On learning in the fields of geology, plant life, and animal life. It should be noted that there are no bathrooms, public buildings, or public employees present. This park is not accessible to the handicapped. This park is tucked behind an affluent suburb and is not likely to be a convenient destination for those taking public transportation. The entrance to this park can be difficult to locate, without GPS, as there is no parking lot. Street parking is abundant (well in excess of typical park attendance in 2016), free, and convenient. The park is closed from...

The sculpted rocks have incredible textures and light at dawn. I spent an hour climbing formation tops—views stretch into the Valley. No facilities; bring water and wear shoes that grip. Few visitors even on weekends—felt like discovering...
Read moreIt's a place to go walking around in natural socal landscape. There are tons of giant boulders, which are iconic to the area. Not the prettiest place, but then again it's Southern California not a tropical rainforest.
Some people rock climb (specifically, they 'boulder') here.
Street parking. There is almost no one here ever. It's free. Super short walk. This is not a...
