We discovered this park and campground while staying nearer to Morgan City at another campground. We liked it so well we left our other campground a day early so we could spend time here. It's one of the few places in South Louisiana with access to the Gulf and the price of a full hookup campsite on the water was $14. You read that right $14. Victor was the guy in charge while we were there and he and his wife are just great people and a pleasure to be around. Everyone staying at the park was very friendly and respectful of one another. The bathhouse was old but kept as clean as possible. Who cares with full hookups! There's no WiFi but again, who cares! You're on the Gulf of Mexico and have sunrises, sunsets and beautiful scenery to entertain yourself with. There's cellular towers nearby, so you'll have that if you need to check your email or facebook. We heard stories and saw photos of bears and alligators but didn't see any ourselves. The fishing looked to be really good, a young guy at the camper next door was catching redfish off the boat docks. The views of the Gulf are spectacular. You'll pass by a lot of oil and gas industry and works while traveling down Rt. 317 from Highway 90 and cross a high bridge over the river before reaching the park at the end of the road. Bear right and you'll find it. I wish we could have stayed longer but we had reservations elsewhere and had to leave. This park is such a gem and seems to be little known, I hope more people can make it there to camp...
Read moreFour stars only because of the very dirty bathrooms, however it was at the end of a weekend and I know they get well used. The park is nice, Bill was friendly and attentive, and our spot was so great!! The park was great - the road in is fine, parking is roomy and easy, great place with terrific views of the gulf!!
A word of warning though - I don't know when they're leaving, apparently they're living there, but beware of the drunks in the short white schoolbus. We are also bus people and invited them in to chat. The wife decided it would be great if she made a bunch of disgusting racist remarks in our home, assuming that since we were white we must have been just as disgusting as them. When I mentioned to her that I probably don't have the same views as she and that it's not a conversation I wanted in my home, she became very angry, slammed open my bus doors and stomped down my steps. And their large shepard, while adorable with humans, was left to wander the park and almost chewed up a little dog from a few sites away. Say hi, and go the other way when...
Read moreA little unsure of how to review this place, kind of just want to write this as a note to others considering tent camping here -- I would recommend against it, as would the host, at least on the day we checked out the sites. Unlike another reviewer described, he was friendly and did not charge us to drive around and look at the sites. Really uneven gravel (more like rocky mud/dirt), super muddy everywhere, no privacy between sites. No firepits or grills. There are a couple of pavilions I assume you can set your tent up underneath, but if rain comes I would still expect to almost wash away. The drive out took a really long time and goes over some rough roads and through some pretty rough areas (though I will never forget the exposure to a part of the country I will likely never see again, much less might not exist in a few more decades), so this ended up being a big, out-of-the-way bust. Would be cool in an RV (there were a lot there) but a...
