This is a great place to camp. There are two campgrounds, the north is the newer camp sites and the south is the original camp sites. Both campgrounds have sites spaced well enough apart that it doesn't feel as though campers were crowded in on each other. The bathhouses are always clean and well stocked. The south campground host (with all the Jeeps) was particularly helpful guidong me into my campsite the evening I was experiencing headlight issues. The check-in process was quick and efficient. The park itself is very beautiful with the grand old oaks, the lake, the sugar mill, and all the trails, truly make it all that much more enjoyable for all ages and levels of campers. I highly recommend this state park and its campgrounds. But book early, because they are almost always full! And there are plenty of things to do for the day pass users to do also. Fishing, swimming in the summer months, hiking, biking, dog exercising on a leash. It's also a terrific place for family, graduation, engagement, or other photo opportunities in many of the areas really beautiful settings and backdrops. You just really need to come and experience all that Fontainebleau has to offer; there is something...
Read moreThis is a big park, close to an urban area, which usually can be a little dicey because of zealous masses seeking a break from their daily routines. The few negatives for me was that I felt that it was a little crowded, esp around the bathhouses. Seemed like trailers and vehicles everywhere. Also a little noisy, although most kindly respected the quite time. Fortunately the list of positives is much longer and made it an extremely enjoyable stay. Big enough to easily find a little peaceful solitude. Amazing sunsets on a more amazing lake. Sites away from the bathhouses offered good privacy and in my experience the primitive sites are on par with the best. Wonderful trails and boardwalks. Friendly staff. Deer feeding under giant moss laden trees. Playgrounds. And a nice beach although too cold for it in my Nov stay. So much to see and do. I'm really glad that I dropped in for a weekend and definitely worth the visit....
Read moreWhat a great place to go and rediscover the fun times when you used to play in the woods, walk well maintained local S. Louisiana trails and camp out in your tent or camper. Its here! And so close to home. Once inside the park, you forget that you're close to civilization. If at all possible; try to go and check out the campsites prior to your actual camping event. This way you're sure to pick the best area that fits your troop's needs. Just keep in mind of the recent sighting and obvious signs of the elusive Rougaroo. (Similar to Bigfoot lore). This creature has been known to visit campsites in the darkness of night. And the preferred prey seems to be livestock. So its recommend to leave your cow, calves,...
