We were on our way west and stopped here for a night. It's a little inconvenient, at about 4 miles off I-20. CG is another mile inside the park from the gate. The place is quiet and has a nice lake. The day use is well used by locals who fish and walk dogs or exercise. They have a swim beach. Strangely they do not have any alligator warning signs. During their season they rent boats and have lifeguards. Small boats are allowed, but no gasoline motors are permitted. Nice large playground over at the day use as well as several rentable picnic shelters. There were a couple of birthday parties winding down when we walked. The CG is a small loop. All the RV sites are at the bottom of the loop toward the lake, there are primitive sites up top near the bathroom. There is also a clubhouse you can rent for events. Like many campgrounds, the maintenance here is lacking. Obviously done by people without licenses, skill, budget or proper materials. One of the shower curtain rods is missing and was replaced with a length of PVC pipe. There is a shelf mounted to the wall between the two sinks, but it was clearly an afterthought and not properly designed or mounted. Wobbly and falling. As are the sinks. They're pulling away from the wall and falling. The sinks are rust stained and dirty. As is the hand dryer. The showers were not clean but got hot and had good pressure, got the job done. No shelves, you have to use the bench. We were in one of the first 6 sites, which were the cheaper ones. The view of the lake was not as good and there were lots of trees, which interfered with our satellite. If I were here in spring/summer, I'd pay for one of the deluxe back-in sites which not only have great view of lake but much better view of open sky. The premium pull-thru sites also have good view and open sky. The deluxe sites are nicely built with retaining wall stone and wrought iron railing. Their trash cans are just regular municipal residential cans (of course no recycling because we're in the South). Trash truck drives through the loop to lift the cans. They have a useless unarmed security guard. At around 6pm the day we were there he drove through the loop making some announcement on his PA speaker. But because he failed to enunciate his words, we had no idea what he was saying. He could have been announcing that the park was closing for the day, or warning people about the approaching thunderstorm. Or both. But we will never know. Because of the thunder and lightning we were up late with our dog. We could see the guard patrolling throughout the night. The park is unsafe. There was constant gunfire to the east. And given our guard was unarmed and had a limited ability to communicate don't know what good he would have been. For us this would just be an overnight if we came back this way. We camped at Lincoln Parish Park in a...

Read moreThis is actually a local park for us only 40mins away but had never been to the campground area and only to the park area for weekend birthdays on and off over the years. Got a new camper and decided to take it for its first outing here for about 5days. Campgrounds are very nice, with all camper sites having electric, sewer and concrete pads. The bathhouse in campground could use improvement, was extremely hot and suffocating. Even though all camper sites have sewer we do not take baths in our small camper. Most sites are very shady, though not much escaping the midday hot Louisiana sun for the ones by the water for a few hours but 🤷♂️. Extremely nice trails thought most of all the trails through the woods are manly only for bikers but the kids enjoy walking them even in 100° 🫠heat index. Speaking of over 100° heat index we were very disappointed (with 2 small kids and a baby) to find out that the park DOSE NOT open its little beach area but 2 days a week, this being Saturday & Sunday. 🗣NOT even for campers! PLUS it only opens at NOON (the heat of the day). This was an extrem let down being we did not know this and was a reason for picking the park for the kids during the week. I'm afraid i can not recommend the campground area during the summer for for families with kids, be more of a fall/winter for kids. Because of this I can not give it a 5...
