This place is one of the biggest hang-outs in Louisville, KY. that there is for teenagers but also for adults. Lots of people like to swim in the creek during the warm seasons in the spring and summer months. And believe sometimes in Louisville the spring months can be as warm as the mid to high 80s. However, a few years back (2019) we did have some snow fall and even cover the ground with a few inches and this was in the middle of April. We've even had it at about 112°+ (with the heat index) before the end of the month of May. So, to survive the heat here, Big Rock in Cherokee Park is one of the best places to be because of the creek to swim in. My husband and I came here often when we were 1st dating and just hung out. There's a lot of teenagers and adults here especially adults because of the playground for the little ones and the public grills and picnic tables there's a lot of people grilling out and having fun with their families and friends. For the spring and summer months here in Louisville, KY. Big Rock in Cherokee Park is always packed because it's one of the best places to be for family gatherings and picnics. I'm sure that people here in Louisville and other places out town or from another state will always come here to hang-out and have lots of fun. It's Free!! You bring your own food, of course, but otherwise it's free to have fun...

Cherokee Park at Big Rock, located on 2199 Park Boundary Rd in Louisville, is one of those places where you can easily spend a relaxing day with your family, kids, or even just on your own. The park offers a peaceful environment with the flowing creek running through, and the sound of water makes the whole area feel calm and refreshing. It’s a wonderful spot to bring kids to explore nature, throw rocks in the water, or just splash around in the shallow areas. Families often bring picnic baskets, and there are plenty of picnic tables and shaded areas available, which makes it great for group gatherings.

Big Rock is also dog-friendly, and you’ll see many people walking their dogs along the trails. The playgrounds give children another way to enjoy the park if they’re not by the creek. Walking around here feels safe and enjoyable, with wide open areas to relax or play.

The only downside is the bathroom situation. Bathrooms are on site, but they are almost always closed. Even when open, they are not well maintained and can be stinky. If you plan to visit, it’s better to be prepared ahead of time. Aside from that, it’s a...

I simply LOVE Big Rock Park. This is important to note: DO NOT SWIM HERE. ITS WATER IS DIRECTLY FROM THE SEWERS. (Admittidly, my family and I didn't know the name until just now when Maps asked me to review it, so we always call it the Cliff Park. 😳) My 2 favorite trails are the trail on the cliffs, along the river; and the hike to Cherokee. The cliff trail is 0.44 miles from the parking lot to the end of the trail. It's a beautiful trail, but I'd recommend not taking children under 3 and to have 1 adult for each child under 6. The hike to Cherokee is 1.51 miles from the start of the trail to the end. It's about 2 miles from Cherokee to the Big Rock parking lot. In all we walk 4 miles going to Cherokee. It's an amazing place teeming with wildlife; we saw HUGE caterpillars, deer, rabbits, dragonflies, crawfish, and more. 5 stars for sure, it's a great place to go...

I think this is a great place. By Big Rock thou there are always ALOT of people on warm not rainy days. They have moved the rocks in the water to make ways but it nature Why mess with nature It's not rite. They don't pick up the trash but they break their beer bottles in the water where kids swim and play. Water shoes in the water please if you take your family even for yourself. People were fishing and not keeping the fish in the water making them suffer in plastic bags out of the water children were watching. It's a shame public places and parks and nature are being slammed by people who dont know how to preserve nature and respect places that are not theirs. Keep it clean for the people who haven't come yet. Pick up after yourself and be all eyes and ears open at all times. Be kind!
