Our social club booked a seven-person group wine tasting at this venue for 6/17/17. The booking, made with the winery's event planner (Kat) included a price of $15 per person for eight wines, with logo wine glasses that tasting partipants could keep. The tasting was to be semi-private and in the pavilion at the scheduled time and at a reserved table.
These arrangements, made at least a month or two in advance, were confirmed with the event planner two days before the day of the event.
On the day of the event, no table was reserved for our group, although we were assured by the staff when we checked that they had our 1:45 p.m. group tasting scheduled and would take care of us at the appointed time. (We'd showed up about noon to picnic there prior to the tasting.)
A couple of minutes before the tasting, we checked with the staff for the tasting and were told to come in from the pavilion and step up to the bar for the tasting. When we explained that this was not what our group had arranged, we were accommodated, but the tasting at our picnic table in the pavilion did not start for a half-hour, although we'd been told that a staff member would be right with us and would accommodate us at our table.
We had to check twice more in that half-hour before the tasting began. Once it began, it dragged on while the staff member conducting it disappeared for a time after each pour.
The tasting wine selections sheets included a price of $20 per person instead of the $15 per person that we were quoted in scheduling the tasting and confirming it. When our group organizer informed the staff and eventually the manager, the manager did eventually let the group have the tasting at the $15 per person price that our organizer had been quoted in setting up the tasting. This was after he tried unsuccessfully to contact their event planner, who was not working that weekend.
While we appreciate that the staff was busy and that our group obviously must have slipped through the cracks in their scheduling no matter what they'd told us, the winery came off to our club's wine tasting organizer as dishonest in their bookings and disorganized in their execution of wine tastings.
They do have lovely buildings and good wines, but if you plan to book a group tasting, get the arrangement in writing and have your group's organizer show up early to ensure everything is in order, although admittedly that did our group no good. The winery's website currently does not list Creek's Edge wine tasting packages and prices.
The manager had told our organizer that we were not the first group to complain about receiving a different charge than what was booked per person. He said that many customers tell him this. However, his attitude about it was that many group tasting customers are lying and trying to shave down the price, instead of the possibility that in at least some of the cases, like ours, there is a genuine problem in the winery bookings that needs to be addressed.
For these reasons, our club wine tasting organizer plans to book no more of the club's monthly wine tastings at this particular venue, which had been recommended by a club member. She said that she suspects that the winery probably does not get many repeat customers regarding its group...
Read moreI had a wonderful experience at Creek's Edge on a late Sunday afternoon. Even though it was a little chilly outside, I expected to see large crowds upon arrival. Instead, I found a very chill, physically-distanced small smattering of people. Some were outside on the deck and a few others were inside, enjoying the live music. The host immediately greeted us and gave us the option of sitting indoors or outside and she quickly explained how everything worked (flights, bottles, full table service, food menu, etc.).
We chose a table on the deck overlooking the beautiful property. Another staff member quickly came out to see if we had questions and if we were ready to try some wine. We both opted for flights, not realizing how generous the flights would be! Since we selected two different flights, we ended up sharing everything and having our own little self-guided tasting. The pours were so incredibly generous, that it took us the good part of an hour to get through our flights. Maybe even longer. No one made us feel rushed at all, but they did keep an eye on us to see if we needed anything. We had already eaten a pretty big lunch, but we ordered the garlic pull bread to nosh on while we sipped the wine. SO good! Bread is always a good idea when we drink wine, and this was delicious enough that we'd get it on every visit.
We didn't really know much about this winery before our visit, so we didn't have any expectations going in. It ended up being on of our favorite wineries in the area! We've been to 138 wineries in Virginia and this is definitely one that we will revisit when we're in the area. The service was phenomenal - we had three different staff members that interacted with us throughout our visit and they were all very warm and welcoming. They seemed genuinely grateful that we were there. They had a Chardonnay special during our visit, but since it wasn't in either of our flights, I asked if I could taste it before committing to an entire bottle and they happily obliged right away. It was delicious and we took a bottle back to our hotel room to have with dinner.
The wines were all very good! It was my partner's birthday weekend and this ended up being his favorite winery experience during our whole trip. The wines, atmosphere, service and bread were all fabulous. Can't wait to...
Read moreCREEKS EDGE IS A TOP NOTCH WINERY. On April 30’Th I had a surprise 50th birthday party for my wife at the winery which included approximately 70 guests. For the past 7 weeks I have been working with the general manager (Michael Stephenson) on having a tour of the winery as part of the surprise. In addition to the tour Michael went above and beyond and provided a wine tasting (4 reds, 4 whites and 2 sangrias) and was very knowledgeable about the winery and all of the wines that they sell. The winery itself is just spacious and beautiful. There is ample indoor seating with a large outside deck overlooking a several acre field that allows kids\adults to play games such as catch\corn hole\etc. They are also in the process of building an open air pavilion which already looks gorgeous. The décor is of the winery is exquisite built mostly of re-claimed lumber with high ceilings. The 3 story spiral oak staircase with-in a silo is a must see. The wines are very affordable. They also have a great food menu. Driving to the winery takes you down some beautiful country roads in rural Loudoun County that allow you to see some of the beauty of the county. The winery itself is somewhat off of the beaten path which makes it seem like you are in the middle of nowhere (which you are not) and this allows for a totally relaxing atmosphere. In closing I would recommend this winery to anyone with NO hesitation. Yelp only provides a 5 star rating, but I would give Creeks Edge 10 out of 10 stars.
Michael Stephenson (who is awesome) and his staff provided such a wonderful atmosphere and service to make my wife’s 50th Surprise Birthday a special occasion.
THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU to Michael...
