This review is for the hiking trails. The rest of the park is beautiful, and my family loves the covered picnic pavilions. Soccer and baseball fields dominate this park. Its a family favorite. The trails, however, are MY FAVORITE. Kit McConnico Park is my favorite park for hiking. I love the single-track dirt trails. It's almost completely in the shade. Easy to follow trail markers. Hikers can easily hit a short loop or extend their hike for miles with the loop set up. Today, I did the orange loop and portions of the purple loop. Totaling 1.72 miles. Trail is mostly flat terrain with mild inclines/declines. Trail does get a tad sloppy after storms but, in my opinion, is still hikeable. Some mosquitos year round, and during horsefly season, they love this park. Bug repellent suggested. Very few other people on trail. Easy parking at the trail head. Park closes at 10 pm, so sadly, no night hiking at this park. Leashed dogs welcome, bring poop bags and pack out with you, there are no trash cans on trail.

This is a well-kept park nestled away down a back road in Lufkin. I came here to hike the lost arrow loop trail. The trailhead is just on the edge of the parking lot, but you can not find this trail on Google maps. This is a forest hike with clearly marked trails that meander through the piney woods. I would rate the hike as moderate, and it's located right on the edge of Lufkin so you can enjoy a nice hike, but there's no need to travel very far. This is also a good trial for someone wanting to get into hiking to practice before embarking on a more strenuous hike. I hiked a total of five miles here.

I frequent the hiking trail, and it is maintained to a high standard almost no trash on the trails and the bridge construction is solid. If there is consistent rain the trail will be muddy and full of puddles and bare roots. The map is accurate and convenient, and fallen trees across the trail get cut and moved timely. Throughout the week there is little to no traffic on the trail, and I've never had bicyclers hog the trail or vice versa.

Stopped here while driving through Texas to stretch our legs and our dogs legs and go to the bathroom and eat. Nice well kept park. Wish we had time to explore the trails. Off season is pretty empty around here so the parks should consider adding gates to at least one of the ball fields in the far corners and the dugouts in order to completely fence one of them in, this would allow the area to be used as an off leash dog park during off season. Our dogs would have really appreciated that and I’m sure others who live locally would appreciate...
