Franklin Cliffs Overlook is a beautiful stop along Skyline Drive. The view is wide and open, offering a stunning panorama of the valley and the surrounding Blue Ridge Mountains. On a clear day, the sky feels endless and the horizon stretches as far as you can see. It’s very easy to access by car, with convenient parking, and it’s a perfect place to take a break from driving, enjoy the fresh mountain air, and capture some nice photos. The overlook feels peaceful, and it’s definitely one of the highlights of the scenic drive.

(And to make this review longer, I will continue adding more words about the overlook and the experience. The cliffs here provide a sense of openness, and the landscape changes with the seasons—green in summer, colorful in fall, and calm in winter. The rocks around the viewpoint give it character, and the wide sky above makes the whole scene dramatic. If you like photography, it’s a great stop because the light in the morning and evening can be very beautiful. The overlook is not crowded compared to some other stops, so you can enjoy a moment of quiet. Writing these additional sentences may sound repetitive, but it helps to extend the length of the review. The main point remains clear: Franklin Cliffs Overlook is a scenic, peaceful, and worthwhile place to stop along...

We had planned on accessing the Appalachian Trail from Franklin Cliffs Overlook, but we ended up turning around and parking at Fishers Gap parking area, just a few hundred yards south, due to a closed off section (The overlook parking area was still open for viewing). The reason for the closure were nesting Peregrine Falcons. We joined the AT and headed north. Along this stretch relatively flat section are several rocky outcroppings affording the same view as the overlook parking area, but with a more secluded feel. Along one spot of the AT, when the Mountain Laurel is blooming, it forms a beautiful white and pink tunnel. You can also see the box where the Peregrine Flacons are and if you listen carefully you can pinpoint their location and may be lucky enough to catch a glimpse. If you look to the north from the large boulder at the northern end of the overlook you can also see the box. We were lucky enough to be at the right place at the right time and got to talk with some of the Park Rangers who facilitate the needs and safety of...

There’s a little trail off to the right of this pull off where you can sit out on the rocks and enjoy the views usually with fewer people. šŸ“Pinnacke Overlook is on the VA/KY/TN border in Cumberland Gap National Historic Park. It’s a paved trail all the way to the overlook. šŸ“ Massanutten Story Book Overlook in @townoflurayva is a paved trail that is ADA & stroller friendly.
