We were fortunate to get the only empty parking slot at about 1:00 on a Saturday afternoon. Later we saw cars parked on the nearby streets. I cannot say that the restrooms were poorly maintained, but they were so used, so full and so smelly that I could not avail myself of their service, had to flee. Be prepared before you go.
Nevertheless, this is a beautiful little Northwest sandy beach. In fact it actually stretches, by my estimate, about half a mile north and south. So there is plenty of space to spread out, even with a lot of people there.
There are barbecues and picnic tables. Some family parties were celebrating birthdays. The water was beautifully clear and swimmers, wind-surfers, and boaters were enjoying it.
There is a woody area for shade, some beautiful large driftwood, and a clear stream feeding the beach. The tide was out and there was a huge band of redolent seaweed. The aroma filled the air, even with a nice breeze. There is a switch-back pedestrian overpass that makes the approach from the parking lot to the beach safe and easy.
It's about 15 minutes northwest of Alderwood Mall, 35 minutes from the Admiral District in West Seattle (during the time of the WS Bridge being closed). Whether you picnic or not, this is a very pleasant outdoor diversion....

Read moreNo matter what kind of weather is outside, you'll enjoy the time you spend at Picnic Point. If you enjoy grilling out, spacious areas for family gatherings, or even if you like taking a walk by yourself for fresh air Picnic Point is a great place to do so many things. A short walk from the parking lot and you're over the train tracks and taking in the beautiful view of Puget Sound, with Whidbey Island in the background. Once exiting the walkway ramp, you can go left or right when you reach the water. Sometimes going left is dependant on wether or not you mind getting your feet wet, or if the latest bridge made of driftwood and rocks has washed away yet. Either way I recommend wearing sandals, flip flops, or simply taking off your shoes and socks when the bridge is not there or is questionable. Going right is also a challenge if the tide is high and again simply wearing flops, or temporarily removing footwear will allow one to navigate freely around...
